Second floor + Premiere balcony + Huge bedroom/living area + Sunny kitchenette + Queen pillowtop bed and 7’ 5” couch
A special New Orleans gem, Ruthie’s Balcony Suite bears the name of our beloved family matriarch. Vaulted ceilings soar above a huge bedroom/living area, including a spacious sunlit kitchenette and full-sized bathroom with tub. But it’s the balcony you’ll love most. Overlooking the corner of Esplanade and Chartres, it’s the perfect place to people-watch while enjoying the potpourri of sounds that drift over from the nearby markets, jazz clubs, and bustling Mississippi waterfront.
SUITES #2 & 3 - THE LANAUX 2-BEDROOM SUITE (Sleeps up to 6)
Second floor + Two huge separate King bedrooms + balcony + kitchenette + private bathroom with separate entrances
Our namesake two-bedroom suite is as beautiful as it is spacious, combining original period architecture with an elegant Parisian theme and all the modern comforts you could want — A/C, wi-fi, smart HDTVs, and more. A private balcony, en-suite bathroom, sunlit atrium kitchenette, and king-sized pillow-tops in separate bedrooms invite you to stay right next door to your friends, yet still enjoy a space of your own. A daybed in the main room sleeps a fifth guest and a futon in the second accommodates a 6th guest if needed. Vaulted 14-foot ceilings soar high above it all, adding to the sense of openness and grandeur.
SUITE #4 - BETH'S ESCAPE (Sleeps 2-4) With its airy 14-foot ceilings, original window shutters, and preserved hardwood floors, the suite is both comfortable and spacious, an ideal blend of natural lighting and cool shaded nooks. Located on the Lanaux Mansion’s second floor, it offers a private balcony overlooking our courtyard — the perfect place for coffees and cocktails.
Soft tones, contemporary charm, and vibrant New Orleans-inspired art create an atmosphere everyone can enjoy.
Need to hit the snooze button after a night of Big Easy fun? Your suite features custom Roman blackout shades and a dreamy, comfy queen-sized bed. The adjoining living room includes stylish, L-shaped sapphire velvet couches — one offering a pull-out queen bed for additional sleeping space if needed.
SUITE #5 - THE WIELAND SUITE (Sleeps 2):
Deluxe 3-room ground-floor suite with extra-large bedroom + Separate kitchenette + Private laundry room + Courtyard access
Featuring an enormous vaulted king bedroom and sitting area, a spacious kitchenette with breakfast nook, and even a private laundry room, the deluxe Wieland Suite is one of our largest and best. Enter through an exclusive gate off of Chartres Street and pass right by our garden courtyard — your personal place for relaxed coffees or cocktails — to reach this stylishly decorated oasis on the mansion’s ground floor.
SUITE #6 - SOPHIE’S ENCHANTED COTTAGE (Sleeps 2):
Separate cottage + Private fountain courtyard + Large kitchenette + Lots of natural light + Our most quiet and secluded suite
Set apart from the main house and featuring its own fountain courtyard, Sophie’s Enchanted Cottage offers an extra layer of quiet and seclusion for those who really want to relax after days and nights of New Orleans fun. The former kitchen storehouse has high ceilings and large windows to let in plenty of natural light, a large kitchenette with a breakfast nook, and a gorgeously renovated bathroom. Whitewashed-brick walls and tastefully rustic decor make it as homey as it is handsome. *ABOUT THE LANAUX MANSION*
You might recognize this stately Italianate mansion from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," just one of the many films and TV shows in which it’s been featured.
The house itself is a star, with a fascinating past. But it’s not just its good looks and pedigree that make the Lanaux so attractive. It’s the unbeatable location at the corner of Chartres Street and Esplanade Avenue — which literally straddles the line between the rollicking French Quarter scene and the famous music clubs and jazz dens of Frenchman Street.
Standing on its wrought-iron balconies with a julep in your hand, you may hear the blare of trumpets, the drums of a parade, and the whistle of a steamboat rolling down the mighty Mississippi, just blocks away. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of a second-line or jazz funeral during your stay here.
Built in 1879 by wealthy attorney Charles Andrew Johnson, the house has played host to not only actors and film crews, but to prominent figures of history including southern general Robert E. Lee and others. Some even claim there’s a ghost among its distinguished list of guests.
Wallpaper from around the time of the American Civil War still adorns the massive double parlors downstairs, as does much of the home’s original furniture. The vaulted guest-room ceilings soar high overhead. And the decor is a fine mix of classic period architecture and stylish upscale amenities.
In 140 years, it has changed owners only four times. Most recently, it was the gregarious and accomplished New Orleanian businesswoman Ruth Bodenheimer who ran the home as a much-loved bed and breakfast for decades until her passing in 2019.
Inspired by Ruth’s love for the house and the one-of-a-kind city called New Orleans, her daughter Beth now proudly carries on the legacy of making guests feel welcome and at home here.
Whether it’s a romantic cottage getaway for two, or a big group such as a wedding party, you can book just one room or all five of them, plus the gorgeous large dining room and lavish double parlors for special events.
Spacious guest rooms have kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-fridges. Several have private balconies or courtyards, and all but one have en-suite bathrooms. You’ll come and go as you please through your personal entrance on Esplanade or Chartres streets.
Everything here is set up for your comfort and convenience.
Welcome to the Big Easy. Welcome to the French Quarter Lanaux Mansion.
