This property was exactly what we were looking for. It's located away from all the hustle and bustle. It was quiet and so peaceful. The home is beautiful, the scenery is beautiful, and the owner is gracious.
Best Black Hills vacation ever!
Fantastic hosts, comfortable and clean house, stunning views....wildlife abound. Very relaxing and fun for all! Thank you, Ms Carol and Ms Lin!
You are very welcome Mindy and family! We enjoyed having you, appreciate that the house was treated kindly, and loved that you got the absolute most out of every day. Come back soon.
Loved everything about our stay. Beautiful setting and accommodations. Owners were very friendly and accommodating. Will be back!
Carolyn et al were cheerful and adventurous folks, even though they face some less-than-perfect weather. We'd welcome them back in a heartbeat.
Relaxing weekend in the hills!!
such a nice place, beautiful early walks, so peaceful, just what we needed!
It was lovely having you. You are so welcome back!
Wonderful Fall Stay At Shady Grove Cabin
We had a wonderful stay at Shady Grove! The Cabin was very comfortable for my husband and I and our English Springer Spaniel, Coco. We loved our walks along the beautiful serenity of Benchwood Road in the early mornings and evenings.
The cabin kitchen is well stocked with everything you could possibly need! The king bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets were oh-so-soft (I'm a sheet freak and these were top notch)! The cabin is decorated perfectly for the Black Hills of South Dakota and we enjoyed reading the books left out regarding the surrounding area giving us a great history of what the Black Hills were like in the past.
Carol and Lyn were very gracious hosts and we had several interesting conversations with them. They were always at hand when we had questions but never bothersome during our stay, giving us our privacy during our secluded stay in the Black Hills. Their dog Clancy was a real sweetheart!
Coco and I loved our coffee on the deck in the mornings watching the deer in the yard.
We would highly recommend staying at Shady Grove!!
What can we say, except that these folks were so interesting, respectful, and open. We'd love the opportunity to get to know them even better!
Shady Grove is located on Nemo Road and Vanocker Canyon roads, beloved of Black Hills visitors.

About Carol Hayse
I am a retired child psychotherapist. Graduated with an MSW from University of Iowa while the earth was cooling! I lived and practiced n Chicago for 40 years. Co-owner Linda Boyle is a singer-songwriter and retired Special Education teacher. With encouragement and time permitting, she will provide you with an evening sing-along around the fire pit.
Carol Hayse purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Carol Hayse chose Nemo
I grew up in the Black Hills and left there, restless to see the world, when I graduated high school--couldn't wait to leave. Now that a few decades have passed, I could not wait to retire and get back for good.
What makes this Cabin unique
I have a very busy time of it when I can get out there. It takes a lot of energy to walk the woods and peaks with my dog, look out back to see if the bachelor elk is coming by, pick up fossils, watch the sunset from Custer Peak, lie on my back in an innertube, and meditate on the front lawn. When friends visit, we go to Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and ride the 1880 train. The Warrior's Work gallery in Hill City is amazing, and Prairie Edge store and museum in Rapid in remarkable. Custer State Park is un-missable, and the rock shops and antique-ing are wonderful. Come on by!
