About this property

The Mermaids Den is a colorful and fun studio space perfect for a or a parent traveling with their child, it's a unique and entertaining place to be. This well-planned 300 square foot space is whimsically aquatic themed with many beautiful handmade features. In addition, it has everything you need to make you comfortable, including a large bathroom with a tub/shower combination, and a fully stocked kitchenette. There is also an attached shared laundry room with a large washer and dryer. The shared backyard is fenced with landscaping including flowers and blueberry bushes. We allow one small pet, 30 lbs or less. Make sure to clean up after the pet immediately. This is a no shoes, no smoking, no partying property.

Good But Not What We Expected

It was a fun stay in Mermaids Den. The property was nicely set up. I like the addition of the TV and heater. That said There were a few issues with the smell of the refrigerator. The heater was unresponsive. The property is literally just a modded out garage. Knowing this beforehand would have changed my decision in where to stay during our stay in Northern California. Regardless still enjoyable. Know what you’re purchasing.

Cozy and cute

Wonderfully remodeled space with modern appliances and fun personal touches; very well-stocked kitchen; quiet and comfortable for 1 or 2 people. Just wish the water didn't take so long to get hot.

My name is Katie and I am born and raised in Humboldt. I love the abundance of nature, the redwoods and rivers, oceans and bay. Almost every day I go walking with my mom on some gorgeous trail within a few minutes of my house. I also love the easy access to body work and yoga. I recently graduated from yoga school and am offering guests classes in my sun room for $20 per person as well as body work for $80 for an hour or $100 for an hour and a half. I am also providing private eco-tours to my favorite spots, inquire for rates.

Why they chose this property

This property has been in my family since the 80's. I bought it some years ago from my sister who did a beautiful job remodeling the main house. I turned the carport into this Mermaid Den studio with my mom as executive director. It was a fun construction-turned-art project. Also on the property is a one bedroom mother-in-law in the backyard.

What makes this property unique

We went heavy on the mermaid them, going so far as to texture the walls to look like underwater. During the early months of covid when everything was shut down my mom and my closest friend spent time together painting the tiles the became the bathroom mosaic. Beyond the sweet theme, this studio is close to everything- 5 minutes from the hospitals, Old Town, Sequoia park and zoo, Fairground, McKay walking track, Samoa beach. 10 minutes to Arcata or the Hikshari trail.
