Perfect location in SB!
We loved staying in this home. It had everything we needed for a weekend away. The patio with fire pit was perfect. Our favorite was the location. It was a quick walk to all restaurants, bars, shopping, and the beach.
Charming apartment in great location.
Cozy unit with porch. Good communication with hostess, Laura. Would stay again.
Walk the town from this cozy tree house.
Quiet and comfortable.
Nice to have a parking space.
location, location, location
My wife and I rented "Papa Dux" for a visit primarily centered around the SB Film Festival. The property was exactly as shown, well-stocked, and clean, and as others have all said, the property manager couldn't have been more responsive. It was very easy to refer to the apartment as "our house".
But what really stood out to us about Papa Dux was the location. A short walk to both the beach and to the several movie venues on or off State Street, meant that we could leave our car parked on-site for almost the entire time we were there. Everything was right there in our neighborhood!!
We do not hesitate in recommending Papa Dux to others and we'll definitely look to stay there again on our next visit to Santa Barbara
We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely apartment, so comfortable and sweet. Outdoor deck is great, and view of the mountains just perfect. Will return again!

About Laura Wildman
My career has been as an artist and teacher. I grew up in this house. Transforming the family home into a home for guests has been a favorite art project. Meeting so many good people and providing a home for happy memories has been so satisfying. My cousin Laura has taken over as manager and she is the one who will be communicating with your and will take care of your needs while in Santa Barbara. She is wonderful.
Laura Wildman purchased this Apartment in 1993
Why Laura Wildman chose Lower State
Our family were renters in the house for 30+years before we were able to buy it in 1993. My grandfather ran a washing machine repair business in the house. He was was known as ''Papa Duck' to the children in our extended family. Thus The Dux! Santa Barbara retains an outsized sense of community. I was reminded of Santa Barbara’s good heartedness recently, watching the last SB Solstice Parade. It was a lovefest of generous smiles and kind intention… Neighbors singing, dancing and celebrating up the State Street; wearing fewer clothes and enjoying it more. I hope you might find some of that Santa Barbara warmth and friendliness at The Dux. State Street is a block away and the beach 5 walking blocks. There is free use of bicycles which I highly recommend as the very best way to enjoy the town.
What makes this Apartment unique
