The Best : )
Western NY weather is hit or miss this time of year, but we got lucky and it HIT over Memorial Day Weekend 2020. I'll start with Christine. She was awesome at responding to any communication leading up to AND during the trip. An excellent experience before we even arrived! The house was perfect. It felt simultaneously cozy and big. It was just my wife and I, so we stuck to the downstairs room. The 1st floor master is a good size. The living room/area is wide open with three walls worth of lake view. The kitchen has plenty of counter space and was well stocked (in terms of cookware). There is an awesome arched cutout to serve drinks and snacks, but more importantly, to see the lake in all of its glory. The house was clean, and there were plenty of cleaning supplies to maintain the deck area throughout the visit. The deck and yard are amazing. Though the house sits in between two other homes -- one that was occupied and one that was not -- it feels entirely separated. A fence and hedgerow work to create a barrier on each side. We could keep our dog out with us without worrying about him having an unobstructed barking view of the neighbors. Always a good thing! The deck furniture was great. Grill worked without a hitch. We used the propane one, but there is a charcoal grill as well. As I reflect on our getaway for this review, I'm reliving the whole experience and smiling. The lake. Simply fantastic. The dock is narrow and a bit wobbly, but we got used to it within a few minutes. The water off the dock was clear, and we could see right down to the sandy bottom. Just an FYI, there isn't really a gradual decline to wade into the water. But it's only about 4 feet deep off the dock, so it's an easy climb down the ladder. The water was chilly, but we went in every day after working up a good sweat with the two kayaks. Again, the weather cooperated! Concerns voiced in other reviews were NOT an issue for us, and we would absolute rent this property again : )

Great Blue Heron
Owner very responsive. Third bedroom is really in the upstairs hall with a pull out couch, not private from the other bedroom. Large great room, great view. it was fun watching the great blue heron who was a frequent visitor.
Thanks for the nice review! We are happy you enjoyed your stay and we would love to have you back again. Thanks for sending the awesome heron picture!
Last minute rental
So thankful to get this last minute rental that I wish I could give it a better review.
The property location is very good and there is parking available for guests. The interior has a nice view of the lake. The patio offers ample seating and a nice gas grill is available. Also, we were thankful for bedroom A/C because it was unusually hot for this time of year.
The property is for sale so I suspect improvements will not be made.
This part of the lake has a lot of seaweed so swimming would not be pleasant.
The interior was cleaner when we left than when we arrived. I shifted the position the LR chair and the floor under it had not been cleaned. The exterior sweeping is the renters responsibility and appeared to have not been touched all summer. Also, had to sweep the front porch and front sidewalk.
The living room furniture was very uncomfortable. Beds were okay. Upstairs hide-a-bed was painful.
When I booked the rental I requested a call from the owner/manager and she NEVER called me. I did receive an email.
Upon arriving the maid was coming out of the shower, not cleaning it but actually taking a shower. Perhaps her shower time could have been better spent tending to cleaning and exterior sweeping.
The kitchen ceiling light wasn't working and I asked the maid to call about this. No one ever called or came to repair the problem.
My cleaner (who has been cleaning for 30 years plus) went out of her way to try to get this ready for a last minute booking. She had a death in her family and informed them when they arrived early that she had calling hours/ a wake to get to and to shower there was her only option. I understand it was probably very strange for her to shower there but it was the only way to make the house ready. She DID clean the shower afterwards. And she brought her own towel knowing she would need to do this so that they could arrive when they wanted. Anyway... that was not a normal cleaning day for sure.....
I didn’t know about the light bulb situation or about any phone call I was suppose to make. I sent an email during this stay and my number to call is at the house and also given ahead of time. We are very attentive and responsive to any situation so please call anytime. I am really happy to assist any way I can to make for a great vacation.
Promptness of property manager
The property manager was very prompt to respond when we had a problem with the keys..
the upstairs got very hot and we couldn’t control the temperature properly but I forgot to bring it up with her. I’m sure she would have helped if I had as she was very helpful otherwise.
The property is a bit run down and needs some tlc.
The air conditioner being referred to is a portable one on wheels that vents out the window. My cleaning lady arrived to the a/c unit running but the vent was not in the window and the windowns in the room were wide open. When used properly this a/c works great. There is an instruction booklet next to it in case anyone may be confused by it.
We recently stayed for a weekend with friends and the cottage met our expectations - it was very quaint! The front bedroom has a double (or queen) bed, was spacious and very bright. As you enter the second floor there is a pull out couch. the bedroom to the back has a double (or queen size) bed with windows facing the water. There is a bathroom on both the first and second floor. The kitchen, living room and dining area are bright, open and comfortable. The kitchen is wonderfully stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans....
My husband and I slept on the pullout couch in the living room, (typical pull out couch mattress!), the breeze was wonderful! We enjoyed the kayaks, dock and deck very much.
The cottage was a 10 minute drive to Auburn, close to wineries and a pretty 25 minute drive down the lake to Fillmore Glen State Park.
Owners were very accommodating and responsive. I would stay here again.
So happy you had an enjoyable stay at our cottage. I’ve actually been shopping for new living room sofas. They do make sofabeds better these days:)
We would love to have you back- come again!
The Finger Lakes region is well known for its wineries, waterfalls, rolling hills and beauty. There are plenty of parks and sites to visit within a few miles, along with the Merry Go Round Theater (live Broadway caliber performances), museums, restaurants and shopping. The quaint historic village of Skaneateles is only five miles to the east and has wonderful shops, restaurants, and scenic beauty. An abundance of golf courses are within a few miles of the home as well. Owasco Lake is a very clean lake for swimming and recreation. Fishing is excellent for walleye, trout, bass, perch, and northern pike.
