Beautiful relaxing experience!
The house was even better than the photos, extremely clean and had everything we needed. Janet was wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped and evenings spent sitting by the fire in the fire pit were a highlight of our trip. The cozy upstairs loft was great for watching a movie on a rainy evening. Loved everything about this home!
This was a great house! Perfect size for our adults weekend! 6 adults fit perfect! The view of the lake was awesome! Would definitely consider stay here again!
Just an outstanding house and location
This was our second time staying at this house. We love the location on the water and next to the state park and its trails. We also love the house itself—great places to hang out as a group and also places for privacy. We like to cook and appreciated the kitchen—it’s both open to the family room and well stocked with pots and pans and anything you need.
It truly is a getaway!
We spent Thanksgiving in this lovely, spacious home that sits right next to a State Park and is literally on the lake (the water is maybe 30 feet from the house). If you're looking for a romantic, relaxing, or just retreat period this is a great place for you. It's pretty secluded but not too far from civilization. Most of the towns and good restaurants are within 15 - 30 mins. The downsides for us, but these things may not concern you as everyone has different desires and expectations:
1) very slow Wi-fi (we used our phones as the download speed was 2.7mb/s at its peak)
2) only 1 TV in the home (32", but there is a Roku device provided so that was a plus)
3) the stove is not exactly user friendly and can't fit very much (the owner was VERY upfront about this and we made out OK. There are manuals for how to use it as it's part standard oven, convection, and microwave all in one)
My communication with the owner was very prompt and positive and we had a good dialogue after our stay and she was very receptive to our suggestions.
As I mentioned, these are things we noticed that could've been better; however I know that some people don't care about any of that and not having a lot of technology in the home is what attracts some travelers. Unfortunately my wife and I had work and school to get caught up on so the slow internet speed was an issue.
In any case, the home is very lovely and felt very cozy. I loved getting the fire going and hanging out in the living room. After we got caught up with everything it was exactly the reprieve we needed. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking to get away from the world for a bit.
Regarding the internet not being as fast as we'd like: We've just learned from a neighbor that Door County now has broadband. Glad to report that we now have broadband and multiple devices can stream at once now. Chris identified a couple items that have been on our improvement list. We have purchased a new oven which has just been installed in Dec 2019 (rather than the overly fancy one that was harder to operate than necessary) and we have installed a 50" smart tv that includes Netflix and Sling. We always appreciate our guest feedback.
Glass Blowing, Popelka Trenchard Glass, wonderful people!
Open Door Bird Sanctuary, Rob will take you on a personal tour.
About Janet Slater
My father designed this home to be a fabulous retreat from city life. Crack any window open and the lake is in the room. Windows abound so the outside is inside. When I come to Door County the stress of day to day life just slips away and the wildlife, lake and new areas to discover bring many moments of enjoyment.
Janet Slater purchased this House in 2001
Why Janet Slater chose Jacksonport
The beauty of this property is that it is on the lakeside, you have peaceful, gorgeous views, the lake in all it's splendor; a full sky of stars; daytime privacy, hiking trails unending, and just a short drive away, when you wish to shop, visit art galleries, eat out, etc. you are close by. I have at our home a long, diverse list of activities for families, couples, nature lovers, shoppers, gallery lovers, boaters, explorers, as well as recommended restaurants, a calendar of events and directions to sites, parks and towns near by, and essential services you may need. We are also happy to give you tips for things you'd like to do.
What makes this House unique
We love the privacy...we have a county park to the south of us, so no one can build or daily encroach on our enjoyment. We have two patios/porches. One is just above the lake with a fire pit and it's wonderful for the evening with friends or early morning tea all on your own. The two person master suite shower and outdoor shower are both a delight. The lights were custom made for the property and add a wonderful texture to the space. The two story living and dining room, along with the Door County stone fireplace are the favored gathering spots throughout the day, with the many glass doors, you feel like you are outside. The Tempur-Pedic king size bed in the master suite and Casper mattresses in the two upstairs bedrooms make slumber a dream. Enjoy!
