About Paul & Anne Harris
We used to run a Country Inn and Spa in Canada. While we certainly enjoy our homes when we can, we really have fun providing an enjoyable and relaxing time for our guests, who do seem to return year after year. We'd like you to be one of them!
Paul & Anne Harris purchased this House in 2002
Why Paul & Anne Harris chose Winchester
The town of Keene, NH, 10 miles north has a wide and constant variety of things to do, with it's 3 universities and very active merchants assoc. The main downtown, with 60 shops & restaurants, with no national chains is very unique. There are all the 'Big Box' stores on the outskirts of Keene. Funky Brattleboro, VT is only 14 quick highway miles away. All of that is contingent on being able to pull yourself away from all the boats, games, skis that we have at the house!
What makes this House unique
Forest Lake is very protected from prevailing winds, so it warms quickly in the Spring and freezes quickly in the Winter. As a mostly summer seasonal lake, from early fall to late Spring, you own the lake! We have all the boats and sports equipment for a fun filled vacation any time of the year! We always have a current list of things going on in the area, restaurant menus , maps, hiking guides etc.

Perfect Family Reunion
I can’t say enough about our stay. Anne and Paul were fantastic hosts. The house was clean, comfortable, and well stocked with everything that we needed and them some. We arrived the night of the recent nor’easter that left the area without power for several days, but we were as snug as bugs in a rug thanks to the onsite generator that kicked in for us automatically. There was also lots of seasoned wood on site for the wood stove , and we enjoyed the crisp fall evenings around the fire pit looking out over the incredible lake. Tons of space to enjoy together both inside and out, and lots of games, books and such to occupy your idle time. We never even turned on the TV. WiFi signal was great l, and there was a nice washer and dryer on site for our use. Paul and Anne checked in on us a couple of times during our stay, and they were very responsive to our messages prior to our arrival as well as during our stay. The place exceeded our expectations, and we left with some incredible family memories. THANK YOU Paul and Anne! We will return!!
Property manager was easy to contact and very responsive to questions. Bathroom and kitchen surfaces were clean but the rest of the house needed dusting of furniture and vacuuming under furniture - looked like it hadn't been done in a very long time. Bikes in the garage all had flat tires (our grand daughter was disappointed) - maybe because we were there at the end of the summer season? The lake was beautiful and there were several boats, kayaks, etc to be used. Quiet neighborhood. Well stocked kitchen supplies.
Susan- We're glad that you and the family had a good time on Forest Lake!
In the summer we're booked back to back with just 3-4 hrs between guests. We have our cleaning staff concentrate on the important things, bathrooms, kitchen, waterfront etc. We don't ask them to move furniture and vacuum underneath, since they have enough other vacuuming and other things to do. . We do that in June, when there's a break in Sept ( which was the 3 days right after you) to lift beds, move couches, rollup rugs and vacuum everything.
We're sorry that you didn't notice the plug in air compressor as soon as you enter the garage. You could have filled any tires in about 10 seconds, oh well.
Nice lake house
We loved being on the lake, having access to kayaks, canoe, and hot tub. Lovely location. Nice roomy house with plenty of beds. For the price, mattresses could have been better, and minor items repaired.
Great trip again
Loved our week at the lake house again
Nice property right next to a lake. Need a bit update.
The property is on a small lake. We like the location and activities the lake can offer. It is quiet and you feel all by yourself just sitting on the dock and staring at the stars. Across the lake, there is a nice public beach that kids can play on- life guard and free swim diapers. We
However, there isn’t much to do except the lake so you may get a bit bored. The list including a air hocky table but it is broken. All fish poles are broken too - if these can be fixed that would be great. The house could use some update. It is on the pricy side given the location but I was there during 4th week so the price might be higher.
Family of 6 in June
Paul was a very responsive owner and he would also immediately reply to any text message I sent. He was respectful of our space and would also alert us if he was going to stop by. The lake location was beautiful. The lake stayed quiet during the week and the kids spent all day in the water. We had access to rafts, kayaks and a paddle boat which worked great. There was easy access to the water which had a sandy bottom. Fishing off the dock was great fun. The hot tub on the top deck was nice and could comfortably accommodate 4 adults. There was a nice Market Basket about 10-15 minutes away and Vermont was just 20 minutes away. Would highly recommend a trip to Brattleboro. Super cute downtown with a great brewery.
Several reviews mentioned the house was dusty. It definitely didn't feel clean overall and I think it is because there were a lot of knick knacks and furniture that could be difficult to keep clean. The bathroom was very tidy, however, so that was a plus. Blinds were very dusty and quilts on beds felt dirty. Would recommend bringing your own blankets. There is a steep staircase down to the water, so be aware if you have anyone with a physical limitation in your party. The house was very dark, but it is nestled in the pine trees, keeping it cool even when the weather was hot.
What the house lacked, the lake made up for. I can't say enough about how beautiful the lake is.
