Apartment Diebach - Biberburg

I stayed in this spacious and beautiful apartment with my wife and daughter from June 1-3, 2010. We had 4 bedrooms, a large kitchen, an even larger living room and the river Saal all to ourselves, and the effect was very soothing. The apartment is in Diebach, a quiet village 50 Kms from Wurzburg well connected by train. It has a 360 degree view of the river and the Franconian countryside with its hills and meadows. The house generates its own electricity by diverting the water of the river through a turbine. I spent a lot of time watching the water swirl through the blade and come out in rich white foam. The sound of the water could be heard from the apartment above creating a wonderful ambience. There's a small island in front of the house and one can go for a swim in the river or simply sit and enjoy the peace. For the gastronomically inclined, there's also a barbeque by the riverside, which I am told by Christa is a favourite with guests.

There are many places to see in and around Diebach, but since we were using public transport, we stuck to the larger cities, Wurzburg and Nurnberg. The Residence at Wurzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has beautiful frescoes painted by the Venetian painter Tiepolo, intricate staccato work by Antonio Bossi and exquisite mirror works and paintings. The St. Mary Church, St. Kilian Cathedral and the market place are some other places to visit. In Nurnberg, you can visit the Kaiserburg Imperial Castle, Docu Centrum (Nazi documentation centre), the zoo and the old town.

We enjoyed our 3 day stay at the apartment and given a choice would have liked to spend a couple of days more to explore the Franconian region. Christa, our host, a graphic designer by profession, was extremely warm and courteous. She provided us plenty of food and vegetables and advised us on the places to visit. She stays in the adjacent house and was always available when we needed her. For those seeking peace, tranquility and a scenic and romantic place to spend some quality time, this apartment is the place to be.
