About Alice and Patrick Grainger Gasser
We are a Swiss/american family with 2 children that you can see on the picture. However they have grown up and are hardly children anymore.
Alice and Patrick Grainger Gasser purchased this House in 1993
Why Alice and Patrick Grainger Gasser chose Lungern
This is my home town, the house was built by my father and we have owned it ever since. We use it for our own vacations, then rent it the rest of the time. Coming back to the house, either for our own vacations or to welcome rental guests is a way for me to keep my roots even without living where I grew up.
What makes this House unique

Hard to beat!
We were looking for adventure, a place to relax, to immerse ourselves in Swiss culture and scenery. We got all of the above in this charming house in the small but central town of Lungern. Our host was fantastic, even picked us up at the train station and took us to the grocery store because it was going to be closed for the next few days! The house is well appointed and the location is hard to beat although there is a good amount of walking involved to and from the train station but it was perfect to burn off all the fondue that we ate! We took advantage of the boat and couldn't have asked for a more scenic setting with the lake, waterfall and mountains in the background. Must do while you're here:
1. Take the boat to the other side of the lake and visit the Kaiserstuhl restaurant.
2. Take the cable car to Turren
3. Visit the "cave restaurant" Cantina Caverna and shoot some guns
4. Take the train to Lucerne, Bernese Oberland and Interlachen
We will be back for sure!
It was a pleasure hosting your family in Lungern. It is great that you were able to use your boating skills on the lake. Looking forwards to welcoming you in the future !
Great house with plenty of space for muligenerational stay
We stayed in Lungern 5/16 to 5/26/19 and very much enjoyed the house, it was perfect for our family. The house is located on the lake, with beautiful views of the mountains and a waterfall. Bakery and grocery store are in walking distance. The train station with connections to Lucerne and Interlaken is a short walk up the hill. A very good restaurant is close by (2 min walk).
The house itself was great. Spacious living and dining areas, three bedrooms overlooking the lake and mountains. The kitchen is equipped with plenty of dishes, pots and pans. We cooked most of our meals. Dishwasher, washer and dryer are there. All is clean and in working order. We loved the yard. It is totally fenced. We had some concerns about our two year old grandson being able to escape to the lake, but the yard is totally fenced, and lends itself to all kind of games. We appreciated the lawn furniture and chaises, and took advantage of the table tennis and the grill.
Joseph, Patrick, and Alice are perfect hosts. They had a highchair ready and a crib (which we did not use, our grandson preferred the bunk bed, but it was available and set up - thank you).
Several times we hosted family for afternoon coffee and when my cousin came from Austria, Joseph said no problem, he can stay at the house. They were able to find accommodations in Hasliberg, but we sure appreciated the generous offer.
Did I mention, the house was impeccably clean, beds made and plenty of towels in the bathrooms. Joseph had set out a loaf of freshly baked bread and a hunk of cheese for our welcome. Very thoughtful.
We loved the house and enjoyed our stay very much. The location is perfect for exploring the Bernese Oberland and the Inner Schweiz. We will certainly try to rent the house for our next family trip to Switzerland and can highly recommend it.
Dear Raess Family,
It was a pleasure to welcome you in Lungern. We are happy your family enjoyed the house and yard. As you said it is the perfect location to visit central Switzerland , either by train or by car.
Looking forwardas to welcoming you back in the future !

The house Exceeded our expectations! The views of the lake were breathtaking!
The Location of this home was fabulous. We had breathtaking views of turquoise water One Direction and mountains with waterfall the other direction. We were located about 30 minutes drive from many major tourist areas for shopping and hiking. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything a family would require. If you appreciate the splendor of the Swiss Alps, I highly recommend staying in this home. The homeowner was super nice!
Thank you for having stayed with us, great to learn that you enjoyed our lake side hide away in the Swiss Alps and what the region has to offer.
Thank you also for having taken good care of the house
Charming, peaceful village in the Alps between two of the country's most popular touristic regions: Central Switzerland and the Berner Oberland. Easy access by train or car to Lucerne and Interlaken and the lake and mountain areas around them, or stay at home to bike and hike on local trails, and swim and fish in the crystal-clear lake of Lungern. See glaciers and high peaks in scenic excursions to Susten, Grimsel and Furqua passes, the Jungfrau, Grindelwald, Rosenlaui. Half hour drive to Ballenberg Outdoor Museum, or music festival in Lucerne. Drive 20 minutes to ski resort at Meiringen-Hasliberg. Village has a low-key, authentic atmosphere: not all shopkeepers speak English, no signs in Japanese or Arabic, no crowds and the local cultural festivals, from St. Niklaus to traditional wrestling to cow auctions are still celebrated by the townspeople, not just staged for tourists.
