Nice
We had a great time at Cobtree. The cabin had everything that you needed. Close to wineries and Watkins Glen, which is a must.
Overpriced and the inside is not well maintined, we would not return sadly
We have been going to the Finger Lakes region for the last few years, but never stay close to the lake. This time we decided to find a rental closer to Seneca Lake, and this cabin was. The location, was great. Close to many wineries and not too far from Geneva's local town to go out to eat and to Wegmans. Our main concerns are actually with the home specifically. The grounds are beautiful. It looks a little colt like, with the way the houses are set up but well maintained and a very welcoming space for our two small dogs to run. What was problematic for us was the inside or structure. The water smelled horrific. It actually smelt like rotten eggs and it was apparent the water had not been treated in a very long time. We actually went and bought gallons of water to cook with, wash our hands, drink and brush our teeth. Only two of us stayed in the home, thankfully, otherwise the smell would have been even worse with more guests. Next, the grill was filthy and had not been cleaned in quite some time. The directions clearly state the renter is responsible to clean the grill and/or the cleaning crew and neither have happened in a while. It was filled with grease and made us apprehensive to even use it with foil. Another major concern was the front step was loose and rocky. When entering, I almost fell a few times. This needs to be fixed for everyone's safety. The cabin was well equipped with all necessary household essentials, but there are several cob webs that need to be cleaned and the bug zapper is filled with bugs (inside the house) which really grossed us out. We appreciate the zapper there to catch bugs inside the house, but the ceilings and zapper need to regularly be cleaned. Finally, the dishwasher is extremely loud/broken and needs to be repaired so we were unable to use that. What is really upsetting is we emailed the owners and expressed all of our concerns and how the above really impacted our stay and we felt the price was not fair in conjunction with what we paid for (over $1200 for 3 nights) Their response confirmed they would be fixing everything we notated and also made mention they planned to sell their property so they were not really worried about what review I would write. While I understand they are going to be moving on, I took that as quite a smack in the face. Basically saying well, we are retiring and selling so we do not care what you have to say. So conclusively, I felt it was necessary to share a true and candid review.
There is a saying “ You cannot please all people all of the time but, you can please most people most of the time”.
We have received 142 excellent reviews, 25 good reviews, 5 average reviews, 2 poor reviews and 5 terrible reviews.
We have been established since 2004 and we estimate to have received over 30,000 guests during this time.
Yes, we do have a few bad reviews and that is to be only expected for any business including ours.
We thank this guest for her frank and candid review of which after all, it their own opinion.
She had warned us in advance that she was going to write a negative review intimating that she wanted compensation so this really is her beef with us!
We addressed all her concerns and fixed every issue that we could. However, we cannot please some type of guests who don’t understand country life or country living and expect things to be the same as if they were back home in their town or City.
We were also unhappy that this guest didn’t even bother to clean up their dogs poop around the lawn either, leaving it to our cleaners to do.
There are several recent online reviews of the exact same property made by other guests who have stayed with us and, all tell a very different story. Please do read these to get a balance opinion please.
As for the water, all of the water is extracted from underground wells and it is filtered and treated.
However, when there have been severe drought conditions, the water table gets very low and creates a greater concentration of minerals and gases in the water. This is not harmful whatsoever but, the gases rise through the water and is released when first a faucet is opened.
All that is required is to run the water for a minute to clear it.
Alrhough, we have addressed every single comment and concern for this very demanding guest who, was constantly emailing and calling us about every conceivable complaint you could imagine during her stay with us, nothing was good enough it seemed and nothing we said or did would appease here.
Regardless of the fact that we are retiring and selling up, we still take our responsibilities and commitments very seriously.
Since posting her review online, this guest has again asked for a refund of the rental paid via this website which tells the real story here doesn’t it?
Great cabin!!
My family of 4 and two dogs had a great time at Hemlock cabin. The cabin is in a great location to the lake and a ton of wineries plus plenty of great food places too. After a day on the lake, a trip to Watkins Glen Park (a must do) or to a local winery, it was great to relax on the cabin porch and look out to the lake. The dogs loved the open space around the cabin which gave them plenty of room for a late day game of fetch.
We are really happy that you had a terrific time in our cabin with your family and that you also enjoyed the hospitality of the Finger Lakes too.
Thank you for making the decision to stay with us.
Great stay!
Great stay. Super convenient. Thank you!
Great setting for a quick visit to the finger lakes.
Nice rusting setting in a cabin with all the necessities for a getaway. Roomy and beautiful views and our puppy enjoyed the stay as well. Close to wineries and Geneva. We will return soon!
Wow. What can we say but thank you!
Not all reviews posted are so generous as yours however, we do read all reviews and try to learn lessons as well as improve where we can.
Our guests are “everything” to us and I speak on behalf of all our team when I say, we do try our best to get things right to make your stay with us a happy and memorable one. Thank you once again.
This house was quaint and perfect for a weekend away! Clean and cute!
The house is well maintained as is the property surrounding. It’s conveniently located to wineries. Provided the perfect space for some much needed quality time with friends! We will be back again! Plus my dog was able to join!
Your reviews are always appreciated and very glad to know that our guests had a good time among the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes.
