Quaint Cottage
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage!! It was the perfect weekend getaway from it all! We enjoyed the original farmhouse and it’s unique architecture. Morning walks were almost spiritual. 2 very small suggestions. 😝 A cedar tray for the claw foot tub upstairs. I enjoyed bathing up there but had no where to put my soaps and such. 2. A lighter in the kitchen for the outdoor fireplace. I ended up using tongs to hold a fire starter over the gas range and walking outside. Lol. These things did not at all detract for our weekend just small suggestions. Thank you so much for sharing your footage with us.

Our stay
This is a lovely place and we enjoyed our stay. The only downside that was not explained in the narrative is this house is a 3 bed 2 bath home however the only main floor bathroom is connected to the bedroom on that floor and the two second floor bedrooms are on separate sides of the house and do not share a bathroom that is up there. So the 3rd couple had to come down and use the bathroom on the 1st floor which would not be a big deal if the only access to it was not through the first floor bedroom. If you were coming here with a single family this is not a big deal but with three couples it was an issue.

Hello! Thanks for taking an interest in our farmhouse. My husband, three children and myself live on Chickapoo Farm where we have horses, cattle, chickens and a few hogs. We are nature lovers and prefer to be outside whenever possible. Hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, and canoeing/kayaking are some of our favorite things to do. We feel blessed to live in such a beautiful area and look forward to sharing it with you!

Why they chose this property

The Horse & Hound sits back down a long gravel driveway. It is one of two houses on the property which are relatively close, but private. Between both houses, we can accommodate up to 12 people. We also have a cabin available for rent which is 2 miles down the same road which can accommodate up to 6 guests.

The whole property has so much character. The details are what make it extra special. If you like nature as well as vintage style furnishings then this place is for you.

Guests are welcome to walk around the farm outside of the fenced in areas. It is a working flower and cattle farm with a few horses that we board in the barn close to the house. It is very important to keep all gates shut. PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS.

The Horse and Hound is right next to my seasonal Pick Your Own Flower Garden. Schedule a stop on your way out and pick yourself a bouquet of locally grown flowers (when in season). While you are there you can also purchase a souvenir or locally grown USDA Blank Angus Beef from the Bloom Box.

What makes this property unique

There is a stocked pond as well has a walking/hiking trail for our guests to enjoy. There is also a small pond up by the flower gardens with some beautiful koi fish.

We are a commercial flower farm with seasonal u-pick opportunities. We also offer various crafting and yoga classes during the growing season (May-October) outside near the gardens. You can find out more by visiting our website chickapoofarm.com. If you are interested in picking a bouquet of flowers, please contact us before or during your stay. Please do not pick any flowers before reaching out.

We offer USDA inspected Black Angus beef for sale. If you are interested in purchasing any cuts before or during your stay, we would be happy to provide pricing upon request.

There are SO MANY distilleries and wineries within an hours drive. Here are just a few...
• 15 min from Jeptha Creed Distillery
• 15 min from Talon Winery
• 35 min from Bulleit Distilling Co.
• 50 min from Woodford Reserve Distillery
• 50 min from Lovers Leap Vineyards & Winery
• 50 min from Castle & Key Distillery
• 50 min from Prodigy Vineyards & Winery

Some other attractions that are close by:
• 20 minutes from Taylorsville Lake/Taylorsville Lake State Park
• 25 minutes from Shelby County Fairgrounds
• 25 minutes from The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass
• 25 minutes from Science Hill Inn
• 25 minutes from The Paddock Coffee, Eats & Gatherings
• 25 minutes from The Barrel Room

Since this is an old farmhouse, it has some quirks. For example, the kitchen light switch is located on a wall in the corner underneath the sign that says " inconvenient kitchen light switch". Another important thing to note is that in order to access either the bathroom on the main level or the upstairs, you must walk through a bedroom.
