A Little Bit of Everything
After the first bombardment of mosquitoes, and being averse to repellants, we did not sit out on the deck. Wish we could have fired up the bug zapper we saw in the side yard. When we were not out exploring, we were OK staying inside the house which was clean and comfortable. I would, however, keep the rhododendrons pruned to preserve the view as seen from inside the house. We very much enjoyed exploring the island, and went to Sand Beach twice, had lunch twice in Bar Harbor, drove up to the top of Cadillac among many other adventures. Thank you sharing you home with us.
We are sorry you had issue with the mosquitos ~ the end of summer was bad for this insect. The mosquito magnet was actually going fine but could not keep ups withe this bug population, this year ~ We are glad we you enjoyed the cottage and the island ~
Thank you for the booking ~
We were there Aug.18-15 2018 and fortunately had near perfect weather. The location made it easy to go to anywhere on the island. There was a decent supermarket just north of Southwest Harbor. The accommodations were just fine for the two of us and could easily handle more than two. The only difficulty was locating the property. There is a small dirt road across from a church which is easy to miss. There is a small post with 166 on it next to a yard with lobster traps and boats. One of the pleasant aspects was watching the coming and going of the tide in the inlet. There was a large collection of brochures and pamphlets relating to the island which made it simple to set itineraries. The only downside was the mosquito population, most dominant by the garage. Still, we enjoyed our entire stay and would strongly recommend it.
Thank you for sending a review for Cottage at Hackmatack Cove ~ We are sorry you had a problem finding the cottage. There is no where else to put the road number to the property, but driving all the way to the end of the dirt road across from the church, usually works ~
We are so glad, that the owners dedication to making the cottage a perfect place to stay, was appreciated!
The mosquito magnet is usually enough to control all mosquitoes but this was a really bad year for these bugs ~ we are sorry you had issue with them ~
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for leaving the cottage in such good condition ~ please come, again!
Enjoyable and peaceful
My husband and I brought our 2 boys ages 11 and 13 and my parents to this cottage, it was fabulous! We spent almost every evening letting the boys play in the harbor while we enjoyed the view from the deck. There were so many things to do not only locally, but around the park. The house was perfect, it had all the amenities we needed, the views were incredible and it was so peaceful.
Thank you for the great review ~ we are so glad you had a good time!
Thank you for pointing out that the Cottage at Hackmatack Cove is a special vacation spot for all ages ~
We so appreciate how gently you used the cottage ~ the cleaner had only to make the beds, because it was left so clean!
We welcome you and your family to come, again, anytime ~
A peaceful place to enjoy the Maine coast. Beautiful sunrises over the cove and Marsh Falls. The cottage is in immaculate condition and completely furnished right down to the best lobster pots we've ever used. The lobster can be purchased from local fishermen.
Attractions in the area include a bike route to Seawall, kayaking on Long Pond, Bass Harbor headlight and many hiking trails with scenic views. There is also convenient shopping in Southwest Harbor and many good recommendations for places to eat in the cottage guest guide. Mainely Meats in Town Hill is one we enjoyed as well as Bass Harbor's Seafood Ketch.
We also appreciated all the information on the family furnishings in the cottage and the history of the cottage and area.
We have been at the cottage twice and highly recommend it for a quiet get- away.
Thank you for a wonderful review. Also, your list of activities give some great suggestions to future renters! We appreciate you taking the time to write this review ~
Our family so enjoyed your private and scenic spot by the water on Bass Harbor, MDI. What a lovely view to wake up to each morning! It was enjoyable to keep track of the tides and investigate the rocks at low tide.
The cottage was so charming and spotless with plenty of living space. The kitchen was perfect, so handy and well-equipped. We made good use of the available lobster pots.
We appreciated and used your helpful suggestions about the island. It was a wonderful vacation for our family. I would highly recommend Hackmatack Cove.
You have made our day! We always are so happy when our rental guests enjoy our cottage for the same reasons we do ~
Thank you for this thoughtful review and we hope you come, again!
We like to point out that the early fall is spectacular here, too!
