About Mike and Sim
Welcome to our holiday home. We hope that your stay in The Shack is a perfect underpinning to a memorable holiday in Noosa. The Shack grew out of a dream to create an opportunity for our family to experience a little of what it was like to grow up in Sunshine Beach during the 1970’s where my parents had a shack. Many things have changed since then but the magic of Noosa is still there in a way that few other places in the world can match. The house was designed by Paul Hotston and Morgan Jenkins of Phorm Architecture to provide a refuge from a hectic world and form the basis for extended family holidays. Mick Devlin from Braeden Constructions applied the skills of a true master craftsman in bringing the house to life. We love the shack, we hope you will too. Mike and Sim Burgess

Why Mike and Sim chose Noosa Heads
We designed this house to be different - I lived on the beach here for many years and wanted to recapture the simplicity that was the basis for so many great family gatherings. it's a home that is special to be in, keep you relaxed and use as a base to explore the natural beauty of the area.
What makes this House unique
These days, Noosa is a relaxed, cozy beach town nestled within a National Park precinct that is now a recognized UNESCO World Biosphere conservation area. It is home to a population of koalas who inhabit the area all year round. The Shack looks right out over this conservation area, and, if you’re lucky enough, you may just catch a glimpse of these koalas going about their daily life. Whether you’re enjoying being surrounded by native pine trees, families of kookaburras and scrub fowls, relaxing in the sun at the beach, shopping in the world class boutiques, or feasting in famous restaurants, all of this is only a hop, skip and a jump away from your doorstep.

We enjoyed our stay immensely and love Noosa
These comments are feedback for the owner
They may help to improve the next persons stay
We found the bedroom positions different and unusual, not suitable for young children
The door locking system is confusing and not explained
The local birds will enter the kitchen when the sliding doors are open
There is an infestation of ants in the kitchen area
The garden is overgrown ( both front and back ) and needs attention
The downstairs shower hose is leaking
thanks for your comments and hints. The house was specifically designed to respond to its bush setting so where possible the natural vegetation was retained and the landscaping reserved for the flat grassed area at the front of the house so children have an outside play area. It has certainly worked in the amount of birdlife the house attracts but sometimes they can bit a bit too cheeky and want to invite themselves in.
My sister is at the house at the moment and the ants and leaking shower issues appear to have been resolved.
Its a steepish block which gives the house the tree canopy outlook. But that made it impossible to have all the bedrooms on the top floor so the second adults bedroom and the children's bunk room and bathroom and laundry all had to be located on the ground floor.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you can return one day.
Our first impression was surprise. The Shack was built for outdoor Queensland living.
The well equipped kitchen with its large island works well for those who like to cook. We cooked most of our dinners and enjoyed discussing the day's adventures at the large dining table. You had to pass through a covered deck outside to get to the bedrooms. The master suite was comfortable with a lovely, big ensuite. You have to go downstairs to find the remaining bedrooms and laundry facilities. The large deck was a very nice place to relax in the warm Queensland weather. The location of the Shack is excellent. It is a short 10 minute walk down a path to get to the centre of Noosa Junction where you can find a grocery store, bottle shop, pharmacy and many interesting little shops and boutiques. As a bonus it is only 1 kilometer away from Noosa 's main beach and the many amenities found there.
A really lovely place to stay
We were five adults and two small children and the house suited us all. The very large deck worked very well for the children as we had five days of rain out of a seven day holiday. The neighbourhood was quiet and the shops etc a very short walk away.
My family stayed at the Shack in May 2015. We absolutely loved the property and location. The best part of this house is the deck that sits between the kitchen area and the master bedroom. We had birds come to visit us on the deck and saw beautiful sunsets from there. We walked to Hastings Street and the beach each day, its a nice 15 minute walk and the area is so pleasant. Noosa and Hastings Street are beautiful, we enjoyed shopping, restaurants and pubs. Everyone was extremely friendly. The grocery store is only a few minute walk. Wifi worked well in the kitchen, living room and deck. The Shack was well maintained and ready for us when we arrived. Hoping to visit the Shack and Noosa again in the future!
My boyfriend and I enjoyed Noosa Heads over a quick 3 day Christmas holiday thanks to the lovely Shack property. The house is well appointed and laid out with the central focus around the open air deck which connects the living area to the master bedroom. The tree canopy surrounding the property is filled with amazing bird song and a good amount of shade to protect from the heat. All the details of the house are well maintained including the beds, bathrooms and kitchen appliances and utensils. We cooked a nice Christmas dinner on the grill outside and enjoyed the luxuries of a home cooked meal while traveling. Wireless internet worked well in the kitchen area and was definitely handy when trying to "FaceTime" with our families for Christmas.
The house is a 2 minute walk into the central part of town and a 15-20 minute walk to the beach. We barely used our car while staying here as it was more fun to walk through the town and enjoy the relaxed beach lifestyle.
Perfect family accomodation!
What a lovely home! It was just as attractive as the photos show. The "Shack" was neat and tidy and had every ammenity to make our 2 week Christmas stay just perfect. We had planned this holiday house to be for me, my husband and 3 children(ages 9,6 and 2) but as a surprise, my in-laws also stayed with us. This house was perfectly laid out to afford "family time" as well as privacy. It accomodated the seven of us just fine.We prepared many family meals in the well- stocked kitchen. We also enjoyed the wonderful local eateries that were all so close by. We had beaches and shopping within walking distance(although we usually hopped in the car for quicker access). We loved the nature trails behind the house for morning walks. Our favorite was listening to all the animals in the evenings as we cozied up out on the couch in the outdoor living area. This home is perfectly located to enjoy Noosa and the many attractions close by. We liked that it was in a residential setting and not right in the middle of Hastings Street. The peace and quiet was fantastic! We had a car so we took advantage of the Shack's central location to many tourist attractions...Australia Zoo, Monteville, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Aussie World, Eumundi markets, Rainbow Beach, Noosa State Park and Sunshine Beach and many more. Fraser Island is a must(the tour company in town will come right to the Shack to pick you up!) The house also had a handy notebook with fabulous restaurant recommendations. We would agree with homeowner's fine taste in food! and add to his list the local Indian place(I forget the name of it). Sitting on the riverbanks eating fish and chips from Red Emperor and lunch looking out over the waves at the Sunshine Beach Surf Lifesaving Club were our favorites. This is the perfect home for a perfect vacation whether you want to do a lot of sight-seeing or just slow down and relax. Besides all the fun things to do, the beds and couches are super comfortable and perfect for a good book or a nap. They even provided a portable crib for our toddler's sleeping comfort! We definitely plan to make this our home-away-from-home in Queensland! When we come back to visit my in-laws, we plan to stay at the "Shack"!!!! Thanks for being great hosts!-----------a happy family, USA
