About this property

The Old Bee, 2300 sqft private home 15 mins from Asheville or Black Mountain

You can find a video of my home on my you tube @treehousecabin326

The home is located across the street from the Warren Wilson College. It is a 1-level, comfortable, sprawling, 2300 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1937 farmhouse on 1 acre. With mature landscaping, big decks, and various quirky updates and additions added over the generations, my home offers space for everyone. It has been decorated with mid-century eclectic art and comfortable furnishings.

Enjoy cooking? I have a chef's kitchen with 2 sinks and 2 gas ovens. There is a small breakfast room, a TV room with a 50" Smart TV, an easy-to-operate gas fireplace (available mid Sept-mid May), recliners, and a pull-out sleeper couch for guests.

My favorite room is the great room with vaulted ceilings and windows on every wall. There is also a dining room table that can seat 6. There are oodles of art and regional books and lots of classic board games and crafts for downtime. I love doing my morning stretches in this room as the sun rises. The slate patio just off this room has comfortable seating and a hammock. Below the great room, you will find our ping pong room, with dart board, accessed from a brick driveway, underneath the trellis.

Another favorite feature of my house highlighted by guests is the extra-large 2+ person jacuzzi tub in the primary bedroom! This tub has lights and jets and stays really warm. The primary bedroom is quite large and has a king-sized, 4-post, antique teak bed as well as the large jacuzzi tub, toilet, and sink. There is a walk-in closet and a separate work area with a large desk next to the French doors leading to the back deck.

There are 2 other bedrooms, the "Tigre Room" (tiger theme) has a king-size bed and a trundle sleeper couch and a large closet with shelves. There is a 3rd smaller bedroom with large windows.

*Please note there is a separate and private garage apartment located next door about 25 feet from the main house. This apartment may be rented during your stay. You can see this building in the video of the house.

Excellent stay

Jennifer’s place is a hidden gem just outside of Asheville. She went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable for my spouse and 2 kids. I appreciated the mix of art throughout the space and with some unique mid-century/Mediterranean aesthetics, it added its own unique cabin charm to western NC. The various fireplaces throughout kept the place cozy during our Fall stay; it was one of those places you keep discovering something new the longer you look around. (The disco light in the sunroom was a fun treat for the kids!)

About the host

Host profile image
I am a mother, a student of life, and a lifelong entrepreneur. I am passionate about family, live music, good food, inspiring conversation, and connecting with creative, curious, open-minded people. I was born and lived in the Caribbean for 21 years, educated in Canada and am now lucky enough to divide my time between Western North Carolina, Germany, and Canada which are some of the greatest places on this planet offering a little bit, of all of that!

Why they chose this property

The Gay Old Bee is close enough to Asheville to be convenient yet far enough away from the noise and congestion of the city. This is my primary residence and is filled with personal things that I love and enjoy and hope you will too. The kids are launched and I now travel 6 months of the year so I have been renting the main house out on a month-to-month and sometimes short-term basis to folks vacationing and or spending a few months in the area. I also own and manage 4 cabins in Hot Springs, NC.

What makes this property unique

This grand house is VERY comfortable with space for everyone both inside and out. It is located on a 1-acre property filled with mature landscaping such as Japanese Maples and Magnolias. There is a small forest on the back half of the property and it is very private.

One of the nicest attributes is that it is located across the street from Warren Wilson College which makes it a fantastic place for hiking and enjoying the farm and river. We are also 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 15 minutes to DOWNTOWN Asheville and all that the city offers. Black Mountain and Montreat are 15 minutes East. We are 1:45 minutes from Charlotte Airport and 25 minutes from Asheville Airport.

This is a fantastic spot for folks to explore the best of Western North Carolina! We get folks coming in for college tours, music events, engagements, family retreats and those looking to relocate who need a safe and comfortable place for a few months. All who come with love in their hearts are welcome in my home.
