About Mary Lukens
My husband, daughter and I live in the charming town of Douglas, just 10 minutes from the rental property. We moved from the city of Chicago in 2002 and have loved every minute of living in this area. Because we are now 'locals' feel free to ask questions and get recommendations on what do while you visit. Happy Travels!
Mary Lukens purchased this House in 2002
Why Mary Lukens chose South Haven
We fell in love with the lakefront from South Haven to Saugatuck when we were residents of Kalamazoo many years ago. In the interim we moved to Chicago, and as much as we loved the city, we missed the peace, quiet and beauty of this area. We hoped to build a vacation home and searched for many years for the perfect location. We found Glenn Haven Shores to have the best beach (when the water is not at an all time high!) in the area and bought a lot in the early 90s. We were lucky enough to be able to move here permanently and bought this vacation house in 2002.
What makes this House unique
It's a very quiet area, with a lot of privacy when you are in the back yard. We also own the wooded lot behind the house, and there's an empty wooded lot to the west, offering a lot of privacy. You can also build a campfire on the beach and roast marshmallows with the family. This is the unique benefit of the private beach. The other thing we enjoy is how quiet and dark it is. On a clear night you can sit in the hot tub and see stars forever.

Beautiful property amidst the trees
Very quiet neighborhood. Lovely place
Great overall experience.
We had a great time in South Haven. Our place was comfortable and had everything we needed.
First family trip to South Haven
House and surrounding enjoyable till heavy construction occurred. Just left during the day to visit other local towns and beaches. Homeowners association stated private beach front gone must go to others beaches. Wifi in area very limited, do not try to do work calls. Just enjoy simple vacation.
Ron, thank-you for the 5 stars and sorry about the construction, I had no idea it would go on this long. As far as the wifi, it's 20 GB limit a week, which is plenty for most parties, the only time that data seems to be an issue is if multiple devices are streaming hi def or downloading huge files. It's not an issue at all for our renters in the off season when the cottage is not booked solid.
We loved staying for 2 weeks at this lovely house. The pictures give a very accurate sense of the house. All 6 of us (plus a 4 year old and an infant) had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The house is well appointed and the kitchen had everything we needed for all our cooking. We loved drinking coffee on the deck in the morning and eating dinner at the spacious dining room table. We were very glad to have the air conditioning for the last 4 days when it got very muggy. The house is well located between South Haven and Saugatuck/ Douglas when you need an ice cream cone or want to go out to dinner. I highly recommend staying here.
Glenn is a small, charming town situated between the Harbor and tourist towns of Saugatuck and South Haven. The area is known for it's beaches and water activities like swimming, boating, sail boarding, and fishing. The surrounding countryside is known for it's orchards and vineyards. The area is one of the largest fruit growing areas in the country, especially blueberries, apples, and peaches. There are also numerous wineries, breweries and cider mills, making agri-tourism a huge part of the local economy. You will also find the drive between South Haven and Saugatuck is full of antique stores and art galleries. Saugatuck has been an artists' enclave for 150 years.
