Charming house, great location
Our family of 4 (including a 2 and 5 year old) had a lovely stay here. The house was well-appointed, even considering our niche needs with two young kids. The location was fantastic and we were able to walk to so much, from coffee to food to the scenic railroad to playgrounds and the historic Zeb’s General Store. It was a great jumping off point for outdoor adventures, but even just hanging out at the house and having the kids play in the large backyard, or enjoying an evening fire were a treat. The owners were extremely responsive, helpful, and friendly. Thanks so much!

Charming Getaway for Families
We recently stayed at this lovely VRBO and overall had a positive experience. The house was clean, charming, and conveniently located close to town. Its proximity to a school with playgrounds and 12 miles of trails right across the street added to its appeal. As a family with small kids who aren't into skiing, we focused on hiking, and the location didn't disappoint. The stunning Diana's Bath trail, just 2.5 miles away, provided a fantastic outdoor activity for both adults and children. One of the standout features of the property was the spacious kitchen, which facilitated our daily cooking for four adults and five children. There was ample space for meal preparation, and the dining area allowed us to gather comfortably. The third-floor "playroom" was a highlight for the kids, providing a great space for them to unwind and engage in various activities, keeping them happily occupied. However, there were a couple of minor inconveniences that we feel are worth mentioning. Firstly, the absence of a dishwasher proved to be a challenge, especially considering the amount of cooking we did for our large group. The time spent washing dishes took away from our relaxation time. Additionally, having only one upstairs bathroom and no master bathroom was a bit inconvenient, given the number of occupants and the price we paid for the rental. It led to some minor scheduling conflicts and waits during peak usage times. Despite these minor drawbacks, our overall experience was positive.

Amazing property just steps to downtown North Conway!
What a beautiful place with the perfect location. Close to downtown shops and restaurants but far enough from the main street for some peace and quiet. We walked everywhere. The house is beautiful, clean, and well equipped. We enjoyed a beer on the front porch and a wood fire each night in the outdoor fire pit. Check in/out was smooth and easy. Highly recommend!

About the host

Hi! Our names are Amanda and Mike. We are avid trail runners, snowboarders, and rock climbers. The mountains are our playground and we love North Conway for everything it offers from lakes to rivers to peaks. We both grew up in the suburbs of Boston. Life has taken us on a new adventure and we now live outside of Austin, TX with our daughter and our rescue dog, Chief.

Why they chose this property

We love this house for its central location, yet it's secluded feel. It is steps from downtown, but feels like it is miles away from worries! This house has a long history as a summer cottage since the turn of the century (1900) and has seen many renovations over the course of its storied past. We love the updates previous owners have made -including rustic board and batten, built-in seating, and beadboard ceilings - and look forward to continuing to improve upon that charm. Early gossip column newspaper clippings remarked on the Nutshell's beautiful gardens. Our hope is that, over time, we will be able to bring those same lush blooms back to the landscape.

What makes this property unique

This house is spacious and expansive, inside and out. There are many places to gather and make memories, from the 12-person trestle dining table, to the living room featuring a piano and fireplace, to the loft with its games and toys, to the bunk bedroom where we imagine friends or cousins catching up and sharing secrets, to the firepit outside, and the porch swing where you can have a glass of wine and watch the world go by. The white picket fence is a nostalgic reminder of simpler times, and also offers a safe place for dogs to roam. Venture beyond the yard, and find yourself on the doorstep of Frontside coffee, Zeb's, the Met, Flatbreads, or Chef's Bistro. Across the street, you'll find miles of trails for walking, hiking, running, or cross-country skiing. There's truly something for everyone.
