About Gary Uhazie
The owner of this home is also the designer and builder of the home. I am a professor of Construction Technology at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida. It took me nine months to design and over two years to build this extra-special home. I personally worked on and was involved in every aspect of the construction, even to the point of custom hand making one-of-a-kind: queen beds, kitchen table, and the pine furniture cabinets in the kitchen. My favorite things to do: Spend time with my 5 children, fish (we caught 86 keeper size fish last summer on Santeetlah -white bass, walleye, lake trout, large mouth bass), and water ski. I am a licensed builder in both Florida and North Carolina (NC License No. 62831) and was initially licensed in Michigan. I teach all the building construction courses that lead to an A.S. Degree in Building Construction Technology. Builders, their employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and some county building officials enroll in my courses to earn a college degree. I have worked in the construction industry for over 27 years and on a tremendous range of projects: hospitals, stores, industrial buildings and warehouses, projects for the US Army, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, custom homes, renovations, restaurants, auto industry, churches, and schools.

Why Gary Uhazie chose Robbinsville
Before building here, we took a family vacation with the goal of finding the best mountain lake to buy property and build. Since we live on the water in Florida we wanted more than 'flat or rolling land with a lake' since we already had that. We wanted to change the lifestyle and environment as much as we could and still be within a day's drive of South Florida. That ruled out many states and left the mountain areas of North Carolina as the best of all worlds. We then literally looked at the NC map and drove to every lake that was big enough to appear on the map and was on the western half of the state (not interested in rolling hills). We narrowed it down to 3 lakes and then considered other factors such as driving distance to stores and how safe or easy the drive would be. The other two lakes had roads that were too scary for my wife and driving age daughters, besides taking 30 min or more just to reach some sort of store. The winner was Santeetlah in almost every category. (What good is a nice lake if it is crowded with boats and cottages) We absolutley love our choice.
What makes this House unique
The unique features and benefits of this home are almost too long to list so to name a few: Everything is clean, crisp, and fresh. There is no long walk to the water, the home is right on the water's edge. Every room except for the bonus room and bathrooms have oversized windows and a view of the water and mountains. (Even the stairs leading to the basement has a window) The driveway and road is at house level for super easy and safe access. Plus there is plenty of parking area unlike some homes that have you park on the shoulder of the road. You do not have cottages right next to you as many of the other homes on the lake have. You have a choice of a covered screened-in porch, open upper and lower decks, covered front porch, or covered rear porch area. So even if it rains there are places to sit outside. There are no other docks right next to you, you can sunbathe and swim in privacy.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great house, memorable vacation
We had a wonderful vacation on Lake Santeetlah. The house was perfect for us, our 4 kids and my parents. The house was as nice or nicer than the pictures and description. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the design and layout. The lake is beautiful and a lot of fun to explore. On most of the lake, you can see nothing but forest, mountains and beautiful clean water. We rented a pontoon boat from Jim, a truly great guy, he kept the gas filled everyday, we didn’t even have to think about it. His dog, Gaylord, was a big hit with the kids. Graham County and the area is beautiful, we hiked at the Joyce Kilmer wilderness, mountain biked at Tsali, rafted the Nantahala... Great vacation and would stay there again without hesitation.
Beautiful views from this beautiful home.
What a beautiful property! The location is amazing with such picturesque views. The home has everything that you need for your stay. Homeowner called prior to our arrival and went over everything. Everyone has such a fantastic time and we can’t wait to go back again next year!!
Dream Vacation of a Lifetime
My family and I spent a week at this fabulous property over the week of July 4th. It has been a dream of mine for 30 years, to find the most beautiful, mountainous lake to enjoy boating, skiing, etc. as well as hiking etc. I found that in Lake Santeetlah. Further more, I found the best place to stay for our family. I agree with all the positive information in the five star reviews, so I will not repeat. The home is so well stocked, it felt like home to us. We have a vacation home that we also use as a rental, and this home is stocked like our own vacation home, so it is very much appreciated. Gary, the owner, has been wonderful to work with, always spending time to answer my questions by e-mail or phone. His check-in packet is the most thorough I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of them. It was most helpful. We did rent a ski boat from the neighbor, Jim, and he was a delight to work with also. It was so much fun, having a boat to use all week, always having a tank of gas every morning waiting for us. We highly recommend having a boat here. Even though it was the busiest week of the year, we could not believe how few of boats was on the water that week. In Texas, you can hardly get a boat in the water at all the lakes. This was such a nice surprise. We were able to completely unplug and relax, which is what we wanted in this vacation. Our daughter, who travels all over the world, said this was one of the best vacations she has ever had. All of us were in agreement. The home sits right on the water, which is so fun and convenient. We highly recommend this rental property, and cannot say enough good things about it. This is my favorite rental and vacation of all time. It is a little piece of Heaven that can be yours to enjoy.
3rd time staying here, always great!!!
Lake Santeetlah Getaway
Very spacious, well equipped cabin directly on Lake Santeetlah. Three large bedrooms with spacious modern bathrooms in each. Modern kitchen with large living room and scenic covered and open decks. The cabin is directly on the edge of a paved, public road which was surprised us upon arrival. However, we discovered this is typical for nearly all home on this lake and traffic on the road was minimal during our stay. The neighbor, Jim Howsley, has several rental boats and delivered a pontoon boat to our dock and picked it up at the end of our weekend at a reasonable rate. That facilitated seeing the entire lake which is gorgeous with huge mountains rising up from the edge of the lake for spectacular views. The entire area is an outdoor paradise with ready access to the Smoky Mountain National Park. Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and many other recreational opportunities. The cell service in the area and the WiFi in this cabin are very limited so be prepared to disconnect when you arrive. The owner offered comprehensive instructions and was readily available to answer questions and make recommendations about the area. In total, this is a great vacation destination.
We give our own 13-page renter information handout which provides lake , home, and area information. We list places to go along with driving directions, travel time, and comments.
