About Cynthia Gillespie-Smith
We are a retired English/American couple who "found" Sayulita in the late 90s when Cynthia ran a photography workshop in Mexico. In the year 2000, we came to Sayulita to spend the winter ~ before we left we'd bought property, contacted a wonderful local architect, and drew up plans for Casa Soleada. We spend much of each winter here ~ otherwise we travel or live in Bandol, France, where this photo was made. We also rent our house near Aix-en-Provence.
Cynthia Gillespie-Smith purchased this House in 2001
Why Cynthia Gillespie-Smith chose Sayulita
In 2000, Sayulita was a quiet and almost unknown fishing village north of the resort town, Puerto Vallarta. While we've seen a lot of changes in Sayulita, most of them are positive, and in our neighborhood, the far north end of town, life remains peaceful. We have the choice of joining in the activity of Sayulita or remaining in the calm, tropical atmosphere of our home.
What makes this House unique
We love walking in the jungle and along the beach, especially the quiet north end. From our balcony we watch humpback whales, exotic birds, and admire the extraordinary sunsets Mother Nature gives us. Then we can walk or drive into town for dinner. Evenings are busy in Sayulita ~ many shops are open and there's a special positive energy not found many places.

Great house in a great location! We absolutely loved the view and the sweet heart shaped plunge pool. We rented a golf cart really easily and had the best time bombing around town to the restaurants, shops and the beach. Sayulita stole our hearts, and we owe a lot of that to Casa Soleada!
Sayulita is an excellent destination any time of the year and certainly less crowded out of high season (winter). As Casa Soleada is located in the far north end a golf cart makes trips in and out of town a breeze! So glad these nice guests enjoyed their stay.
Really enjoyed our stay here. Unreal ocean view from everywhere in the house, private pool is completely surrounded by plant life. Cynthia was quick to respond with any questions we had.
I had the most beautiful time at casa soleada it’s relaxing peaceful I definitely recommend it will come again 👍🏻
So happy that our nice guests relaxed at Casa Soleada and appreciated the peaceful nature that surrounds us there. The house is close enough to the action, but yet in another world!
Do not hesitate to stay in this gorgeous casita! It was our first time staying in the north end of town and we found it much closer to town than we had considered. We enjoyed our evening walks home and loved having a beach all to ourselves just minutes down the hill. Ernesto Andy Cynthia were gracious and easy to reach.
The house was beautiful. Lovely Mexican tile everywhere. A well appointed kitchen under a palapa where you could watch chachalacas, magpies, parrots and butterflies while making morning coffee. We enjoyed going into town in the morning and then heading back to the casa for siesta time where we lounged on the chaise in the open air living area and soaked in the views after taking a dip in our private salt pool.
I can’t recommend this place more highly. After our 3rd trip to Sayulita, we were anticipating the desire to explore elsewhere in Mexico. This casita is a reason to return for more! Don’t hesitate to jump on it if it is available.
I am so glad to know that these lovely guests enjoyed our house so much! Her review makes me wish I were there myself! Casa Soleada is open to nature, and has a soothing affect ~ the birds and waves somehow transport us to another, calmer place.
Beautiful stay, perfect for two
We loved our stay at Casa Saleada, from the open air living room, outdoor shower with incredible views, much needed A/C in the bedroom. It was truly fabulous. The only gripes (which are minor) are the pool is very small and accessible only from the street (which is very steep and rocky), and the shower would not warm up the last couple of days. But small potatoes compared to what an incredible space it was, would def recommend to anyone looking for a bit of privacy just a bit away from the beach.
I am so glad this nice couple had a good time at Casa Soleada, but I do not understand the minor "gripes" they mentioned. Yes, the pool is small -- the exact dimensions are on the web site, but it is not accessed from the street! It's accessed from our house -- cement steps go down from the kitchen side of the house to the stone terrace and pool. In any case the place is incredibly pretty, private and the small pool a great asset in hot weather.
Thank you so much Cynthia for sharing your beautiful home with
us. From the time we were picked up at the airport by Leo and met
by Ernesto to show us your home, we could not have
felt more comfortable. Your home gave such a wonderful view of
the sea and sunsets. Your dipping pool was perfect.
We would definitely like to stay again on our next trip to Sayulita.
