About this property

Peaceful All Seasons Lakehouse On Private Lake

About this space
The Lakeland Lakehouse is a quiet getaway just a one minute walk from private all-sports Rush Lake, and short drives to all the outdoor recreation you could want. The 34-mile Lakelands multi-use path connects right outside the neighborhood for walking, running, or cycling. Portage Lake and Brighton Recreation Area are just ten minutes by car. Rush Lake Hills Golf Course is only a mile away. Or stay close and enjoy the beach and lake at Hillside Park right down the street from the house.

The space
This 1000 square foot home feels spacious and comfortable, with two large bedrooms and one smaller one. Cook hot meals in the kitchen, enjoy complimentary coffee at our pour-over station or in the coffeemaker, or bring your own espresso to make in the moka pot. We provide regular and decaf coffee, creamer, tea, and snacks. The 50” TV features a Roku with apps like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu for you to securely log into with your own account, or several free channels if you don't have your own accounts. A Bluetooth speaker sets you up with music or your favorite podcasts. Play games or do puzzles from our small collection. Soft cotton bedding provides for a restful sleep while the light-filled home warms you up during the day. Although the house uses well water, our reverse osmosis system provides pleasant drinking water.

The front deck is set off the road for extra privacy, and in warm months the backyard features an additional deck, patio, patio set, and lawn. We provide a badminton set, corn hole, beach towels, and two beach chairs for your enjoyment. The neighborhood beach and the backyard are equally great for playing games and relaxing!

Guest access
The home is located in a small neighborhood of well-maintained unpaved roads just off of M-36. Or, bike in via the Lakelands Trail, which connects to the neighborhood right by Cap'n Frosty just outside the neighborhood entrance (and grab an ice cream while you're at it!). Bikes can be stored away from the weather in the backyard shed. The long driveway can accommodate up to two cars with additional parking on the street.

Rush Lake can be accessed down the street at Hillside Park, which offers picnic tables, benches, and a beach. From the upper entrance, the park requires walking down stairs, but it can be also accessed at ground level around the corner.

Other things to note
Outdoor Fun: Recreation nearby includes everything from downhill and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing, hiking, fishing, golfing, hunting, horseback riding, archery, boating, and even paintball. Get to Ann Arbor for football games or Art Fair in just 30 minutes. Rush Lake Hills Golf Course is only a mile away. Rent boats to paddle the chain of lakes or the Huron River at Portage Lake. Great mountain biking at the DTE Trail or Island Lake are 25 minutes away. Feel free to inquire about good routes for cycling - road, gravel, or MTB!

The Neighborhood Lake: Rush Lake at Hillside Park includes a private boat launch (inquire with us about gaining access to that launch). Portage Lake has a DNR launch, and the Lakeland Marina on Zukey Lake offers a launch for a fee. Bring your boat!

If you are traveling with children: We have a few items in the house that we would want you to be aware of if you are traveling with children. We have short decks that do not have railings, so they are not suitable for unsupervised young children. Also, the house has not been designed for young children, so the coffee table has unprotected corners, the cupboards aren't childproof, and we store cleaning supplies/paint on the floor in the bathroom closet, for instance. We want you to be aware of these details to ensure the safety and comfort of your children.

Nice Lakehouse
We enjoyed our stay here. It is a nice place with pretty much everything you need within 15 minutes. Our only complaint is that Capt'n Frosty is a seasonal business and they closed the week before we arrived (9/24-27)

We are a half-Michigan, half-California sister team fulfilling our dream of welcoming travelers to a beautiful area that we love. We are avid cyclists, hikers, boaters, and all-around nature lovers with a particular passion for frogs, cats, and Cap’n Frosty ice cream. We also love to travel and have collectively visited most states and provinces in North America, as well as Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, countries throughout Central America, Iceland, Sweden, the UK, Thailand, and even Luckenbach, Texas. We come from a family of artists, sailors, and animal lovers and we are excited to reflect those themes throughout the home. We hope you enjoy your stay, and please check out the guidebook or reach out to us for recommendations or anything else you need!
