Beautiful marine life, crystal clear water. Mr. Brown’s taxi service to and from town was great. He was always prompt and helpful. Wrap around deck was marvelous. No air conditioning but the fans kept us comfortable. Bugs came out at night but bug spray did the job. Dolphins, stingrays and lots of tropical fish were spotted from the deck.
Accommodations were rustic and were just what we were looking for. We were a group of six and never ran out of water or electricity. It rained for about 30 minutes on 2 of the 7 days of our visit.
We had plenty of towels and used the washer midweek to freshen everything up.
We could have used a bit more sawdust for the composting toilets but perhaps we used too much to start with not sure about that, but all was well we didn’t notice any foul odors as a result.
We went to star fish beach one day via Brown’s boat. We took the bus to Bocas Del Drago beach another day. Both beaches were a tropical paradise. Star fish beach had lots of restaurants and vendors and lots of people. Drago was quiet with a single restaurant.
We spent about 4 hours at each beach but could have stayed longer. The bus to and from Drago left every 30 minutes from the town square, very convenient.
We would walk to town from Brown’s dock or sometimes hop into a collectivo or taxi. Plenty of both.
I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys being outside and enjoying everything the tropics have to offer.
Nothing like it
If you and fellow travelers are flexible, this is a great adventure stay. Could sit on the wide verandah for a week -to watch the sky interact with the water, watch pelicans and swim off the dock. As promised Mr. Brown is always available for the ride into town, twice a day if you wish - we found once a day was more than enough. Our group of 4 was pretty content to stay put.
This property is nothing short of AMAZING!! Every view from each room is stunning, and the fresh ocean breeze flooding through the house when each accordion door was open was something out of a dream. 4 of us stayed here and would spend our mornings swimming, tanning and taking in then picturesque views. After we had a few cups of coffee we had Mr Brown take us into town for the afternoon and again in the evening for dinner and a few drinks or “RROOOOOOMMMBBAA” as Mr Brown would say. Mr. brown lived on the land behind the property and was our first line of defense for any need or issue we had. He didn’t speak very good English but nothing a few poor attempts at using google translate and numerous laughs by all, we always figured it out in the end. We all gave this place 5 stars and after 2 weeks, in 2 countries and 6 towns it was still the best house we stayed in overall.
Thank you to Chris, Sheila and Mr Brown for making this trip so memorable and definitely make sure you book this place for a few nights minimum during your stay!!
Great place, great host. Swimming off the deck, good access via boat to Bocas Town, just far enough away to relax. Brown is happy to take you to town on the boat anytime up to twice per day, so head in for dinner, drinks, then back to the house for a swim. WIFI, all necessities provided. Good access to Starfish beach - a must see. Even comes with a cool dog “Winston”. Owner provided excellent communications, services, helped with tours, questions, etc. Thanks, Mark!
Secluded and great views!
Roomy and great views- a quick boat ride from Bocas Town and easy to get back to Bocas Town. Senor Brown was wonderful-took us to and from Bocas Town regardless of weather. Great swimming and kayaking from the deck. This is an off-the-grid rental and visitors should adjust their power uses to that reality-we had two rainy days but we didn't really have any issues since there is a generator that can boost the available power. Conserve. Only negative: ALL the linens need to be replaced, they are very worn.
Thanks for the review. I take it you were in Kate's group. I already have new sheets to replace the ones your group used. I actually had them before your visit. I was very accommodating to your group in a few ways. Even though I wouldn't consider the sets "very worn" you got them because I bent my rules of no dogs allowed so a member of your group could bring their dog. Like I said I was very accommodating and was only protecting myself. Thanks again for your visit.
The area of Bocas Del Toro is a wonderful archipelago. On one side is the open ocean for those who like the waves: surfers; fishermen; etc. The other side is protected by the islands and an extensive reef system creating a very large calm water area. Rather like a lake but filled with all the wonders of the Caribbean sea. The opposite direction is the mainland of Panama with views of the mountains that constitute the continental divide. We are very lucky to have the best of all worlds.
Other Activities: shopping, boating, kayaking, health/beauty spa
