It was okay. Somewhat disappointing, but perhaps I was expecting too much! ;0)
The location was perfect as I was visiting someone two blocks over. I'm a spoiled suburbanite, so the apartment itself was a bit of a culture shock for me. The bathroom is off of the kitchen, which is weird to me, but I understand it's quite common in this area. The apt. was a bit of a hike to the subway & grocery store. Fairly steep, narrow stairs to get up to the apt. It was difficult getting our suitcases up & down the stairs. Had to go through three different keys to enter, which was annoying. Told you, I'm spoiled by things like electronic locks. ;0) Had problems with TV at first, but was solved by second day. Written instructions should be provided. The electrical outlet in the kitchen near the table did not work. Electrical outlets were in short supply. Linens were not really adequate. Only two towels provided for two people for eight days. No hand towels. No washclothes. No bath mats. I expected these items to be provided at a rental. If they are not going to be, it should be clearly noted in the description. Perhaps it was and I missed it. One roll of toilet paper was provided. Also not adequate, in my opinion. There was considerable noise from the adjoining apartment, a child running, people talking. I was surprised how well we could hear them, as the walls seemed to be thick in this old structure. Perhaps the acoustics were weird. I slept on the futon (thought it was going to be a pull-out couch; not) in the living room, as the second bedroom seemed claustrophobic. The futon was not comfortable. Linens were not provided for the futon, only the two beds, so we had to remove them from the second bedroom to use on futon. If you go in the summertime, please note that you will not be able to operate the air conditioner/ microwave/ stove/ coffee maker at the same time. There are only two plug-ins for these appliances. There was quite a draft coming in through the kitchen air conditioner unit window. We had problems at first adjusting the radiators and had to open windows as it got too hot. Written instructions should be provided on how to operate the radiators. Not everyone is accustomed to radiators. One absolute on this place, it was clean. Personally, I would not rent this apartment again, but if you're not a spoiled suburbanite, you might like it. The owner was responsive to our requests for help with the TV and responded promptly to other texts I sent.
Affordable and close to the L train
Great place to call base
Very nice apartment!
My family and I moved back to NYC and needed a place to stay big enough to accommodate the 6 of us while we got our own place. We stayed here for 7 months! The owners were extremely nice, friendly and very helpful. Great newly renovated apartment, fully furnished and with new kitchen appliances and fully equiped also, wireless internet and apple tv kept the kids very entertained and happy, great location close to supermarkets, stores, restaurants, park, laundry, banks, hospital for emergencies and only a few blocks away from 2 different train stations which made it so easy to go back and forth into the city and plenty of bus stops close by. Will definitely refer our friends and family when they come to NY to stay here. Thank you for making us feel so comfortable and making us feel like we were “home” here. :)
Nice Apt in a Great Area
I stayed at this apt for few months while I was in a transition period to move to Florida. I loved my stay in this place because the area is very nice and quiet. There are parks and great walking paths around the corner. There's laundry, deli, restaurants (great grubhub selection) all nearby. Buses and trains very close.
The Apt itself was very clean and well maintained and came set with everything I needed for my stay. Comfy bed in a nice master bdrm, spacious living room with TV, internet, and couch(pullout) all set. There's also a desk , extra bdrm , kitchen had utensils and small appliances . Great amount of closet space and kitchen had a huge pantry.
Another added bonus is Ridgewood houses in this area are quite historic and great to walk around and explore. You will love it here if that's your thing. This apt had great little touches of character throughout , moldings, trim, tin ceilings and more. All fabulously maintained.
Last but not least I had a very pleasant experience due to Julie, my host. She made sure everything was all set and was accessible if I ever needed help or had concerns. I stayed there for about 3 1/2 months and never had any issues. I loved my stay there and will definitely come back if I am going on vacation .
Great home base for a NYC vacation.
This apartment was exactly as described. It was clean, well-maintained and appeared to be recently renovated. The owner was great to work with and actually lives in the building. The apartment easily accommodated our family of 2 adults and 3 kids.
On-street parking is available at no cost, although it can be difficult to find a spot and you need to move your car on the right days for the street sweeping schedule. The apartment is a 10-minute walk from two subway lines that both had us in Manhattan in 30 minutes. Just look at the map to figure out which line gets you closer to your destination. The subway was so convenient that we didn't use our car at all after we arrived.
During the walk to the subway, you pass several small grocery/convenience stores, which made it easy for us to have quite a few meals in the apartment (saving lots of $ on meals). We were very thankful that we skipped the high-priced hotels in Manhattan in favor of a much more authentic NYC experience - everyone we saw in the neighborhood was on their way to work or school, not a fellow tourist.
If you are looking for a perfect place nearby Manhattan, you will enjoy this great apartment that comfortably sleeps up to five people. This gorgeous apartment offers everything you need for a great stay: one queen size bed in the master bedroom, a twin size bed that can turn into a full size bed in the second bedroom and a pullout sofa for two, high speed internet, 46' flatscreen TV, dining table with chairs, renovated kitchen that has a brand new stainless steel refrigerator, stove, microwave and bath.
Ridgewood is a perfect place for your stay since its only 15 minutes away from Manhattan! The streets are lively at all times, you will be able to find all kinds of restaurants, bars and shopping areas. The L subway line (Dekalb stop) is only 4 blocks away from the apartment and 1 stop away from the M train that takes you all throughout Manhattan!
