Secluded Setting a Short Walk to Downtown
About Gene Dugger
I grew up in a small town near Nashville, Tennessee, and my wife, Chris, has spent most of her life in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. After graduating college, I enlisted in the US Air Force and served in the four years, during which I was stationed in Mississippi, Turkey and Texas. Most of my corporate life was spent in Houston, TX. Both Chris and I married our high school sweethearts and had wonderful marriages, and the four of us were Air Force friends. After the loss of our spouses we reconnected and were married in August, 2019. God has been writing our story for a very long time, and we expect to live happily ever after. Chris and I love to travel and we get away as often as possible. We are active at Brookstone Church and love entertaining in our home.

Why Gene Dugger chose Charlotte Street
We chose Asheville because the mountains offer a sense of peace and tranquility not found in many other places. Also, we were attracted here because of the fascinating mix of people who call Asheville home. Asheville has wonderful restaurants comparable to many of our favorites in Houston. Also to be found in Asheville are the Symphony, Asheville Community Theater, and outstanding medical facilities. We were drawn here by the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Biltmore Estate, The Folk Art Center and the like. I have appreciated such things as a huge farmers market for fresh produce, and also excellent shopping for groceries in our local stores. Asheville is very simply a great place to vacation and live.
What makes this Apartment unique
The things that attracted me to this property are: it's close proximity to downtown--its an easy walk; the charm of a wonderful 1880's home; the privacy afforded by the lush greenery around the lot; and the beautiful view of the mountains.

Spacious, private, and great location
This is really a two-room suite -- spacious living room with kitchenette plus separate bedroom, located at the end of a house, with private entrance and even a small outdoor terrace. The location is perfect -- only minutes from galleries/restaurants/bars neighborhood downtown but up a steep hill, away from noise and traffic. Traditional decor. Many thoughtful touches from the owner, like water and juice in the fridge, stocked Keurig, packages of bagels and cream cheese for breakfast, and even a plate of home-made chocolate chip cookies. The place was spotlessly clean. It is a terrific place to stay in Asheville.
This property was the nicest that we have ever stayed in. It was extremely clean, furnished with lovely antique furniture that was beautiful but comfortable. Gene was a great host, met us to let us in. Provided juice , bagels, cheese, fresh cookies, and candy as well as items for the bathroom that may have been forgotten. The property was close to downtown, in walking distance if you chose to do that but also felt secluded and private. The only negative was that the parking was a bit tight for our large pick up truck. I would definately stay there again.
Perfect Weekend Getaway
We live in Charlotte, just a two hour drive away. We love Asheville but have always stayed in a hotel when we visit. We decided to use vrbo this time and it was so much more affordable and this rental in particular was basically like an apartment. It has everything you could need including a mini fridge with freezer, large toaster oven, microwave and keurig coffee maker. Gene also provided K-cup pods, bagels, jam, OJ and bottled water. Genes property is in a great area and is only a 15 min walk to downtown. With the exception of walking to Bone and Broth, a really great restaurant just an 8 min walk away (check it out on yelp), we mostly opted for Uber to get around and it was only around a $7 ride each way. We would definitely stay with Gene on our next trip if his property is available!
Close to Town, clean and nice setting!
Excellent location and Beautiful Property
We really enjoyed our stay! So convenient to everything and a cheap uber away from downtown. All of the extra perks that Gene provides are fantastic. We were welcomed with homemade cookies on our arrival and the kitchen was stocked with bagels, cream cheese, jams, jellies, water and OJ so we didn't have to run out for breakfast. You really can't beat that! We'll be back. Thanks!!
Thank you, It was a pleasure having you visit. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay here. Come back whenever you can!
Comfortable and convenient
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This rental was perfect for the two of us and Gene was a great host. This place is extremely convenient to the blue ridge parkway and everything else in Asheville.
Just minutes from the Biltmore Estate, A short walk to the Thomas Wolf House
