About Martha Yuknis
Len and I built the first phase of our cottage in 1976 when our first two children were 4 and 5, We have been returning to Molokai to spend a month or more each year since then. . In 2002 we renovated the house for the third time. Our youngest daughter was married in the gazebo in 2005. Our family now joins us each year to celebrate the holidays and enjoy the sun and the sea. It is a great break from Alaska winters. We all feel very much at home here..
Martha Yuknis purchased this Cottage in 1976
Why Martha Yuknis chose Kaunakakai
Our family has always enjoyed the ocean and beach life. We love to fish, swim and relax by the shore. Hawaii gives us a break from the Alaskan winters and renews our energy so returning is always a joy.
What makes this Cottage unique

Great home on the beach. Awesome view. Interesting outdoor shower. You need to use it in daylight or plan on sharing it with the frogs. If you are a cat lover this home comes with two cats. They are nice outdoor cats. It is 35 minutes to town on a narrow winding road. A bonus for those who just want a vacation to relax. You can get all your supplies at Friendly market or some from the store 3 miles away. Great roastiery chicken and gravy at the check out counter. Very private location. Thanks for sharing paradise.
Great location, lots of wildlife, well maintained home - we hope to be back!
We have rented a lot of homes in Hawaii and this is one of the best maintained homes we've seen. Waterfront homes take a lot of abuse from the weather, but this one proved that with attention and care you can keep up.
The house is open and airy, never got too hot. The outdoor shower was one of the main reasons I booked the house. It did not disappoint. Each bedroom has an attached bedroom. The house was fully stocked with supplies, pantry items, beach towels, coolers, shopping bags and more.
We saw whales almost every day from the lounge chairs at the edge of the water. So fun to watch the egrets that were always in the yard. But honestly our favorites were Vampire and Pounce, the cats. We are cat people, so we loved having their company.
The location on the south east end of the island is close to the best snorkeling beaches and our favorite to-go counter for excellent traditional Hawaiian food.
Karen, the house cleaner, was great to work with - super helpful. Communication with the owners prior to the stay was excellent also.
I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! We love it too!!
A wonderful beachfront property on the east end of Molokai.
Nice bay windows to view the ocean and channel to watch whales. The outdoor shower is a nice touch. The Master bathroom was under repair during my stay the last week of March 2019. The cats that come by are friendly and affectionate. The house is on a large property with plenty of room for any outdoor activity you can think of. Mile 20 Beach is about a mile away and has wonderful swimming and snorkeling,
Wonderful stay at "Our Beachfront Cottage"
We had a great time at the cottage. The place is amazing.. Right on the beach with great ocean views and views of Maui and Lanai from the house. The property and house are both well maintained and has everything for a relaxing stay. And the outdoor shower such fun! We also enjoyed having Vampire the resident outdoor cat to keep us company. He would always greet us when we drove up to the house.
We will definitely be back to stay here on our next trip to Molokai.
Amazing Family Vacation!
We stayed for 5 nights and I wish it could have been more. The house had all the necessities for your stay. The outdoor space is breathtaking. Plenty of yard to play frisbee or whiffleball. The outdoor shower was concerning for the kids at first. But after one shower they loved it and wanted to even take extra showers. The beach right in front of the house is perfect for watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee. It is rocky but just down the way is a perfect spot for laying out and enjoying the sun. Molokai itself is such a fun town. All the locals were super friendly and welcoming to us. They showed us some of Molokai's hidden gems. The drive to town is about 30 minutes with the speed limit not exceeding 45. Definitely stock up when you are in town with groceries and drinks. There is a cute little market about five minutes down the road. They have AMAZING lunch and any grocery necessities you may need. You will pay a price for it but it's worth saving the time. For us this house was a perfect spot to relax, unwind and create memories we will never forget. Thanks Yuknis family for sharing your beautiful beachfront cottage.
It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation. I am so happy that you enjoyed the house and island. I know we love it and are pleased to share it.
Two week get away...
Great stay at the cottage just what was needed. Everything we need was available however it was not our first time to the cottage. We love the access to the reef, beautiful yard, gazebo and most of all the whales. Mahalo, Jane & Paul
