Not family friendly
The roads to the cabin are mostly gravel and rough. We had no cell service and there is no telephone in the cabin and the weeds were overgrown all around the cabin and on the trail. We tried to take the trail with the kids and it seemed as if a deer had made it. The small air conditioning unit could not keep up so we had to drive 20 miles back to Morgantown to buy a fan. The parking area was muddy and it was hard not to track it into the cabin. The shower uses a tankless hot water heater and it isn't adjusted correctly which made for a terrible experience trying to shower. The maintenance guy had let himself in when we weren't there without our permission and we came back to find him trying to fix the hot water problem that the renters before us had complained about. It didnt work. The shower was a little bit better but still terrible. There is also a sign to take all your trash to the dumpster which is down the gravel road from the cabin and that's where I drew the line. I was not loading garbage into my car since I had to pay a cleaning fee and we had to completely clean the cabin before we left anyway. It was very overpriced in my opinion and we will not be back.
we are surprised by this review since this cabin receives so many 5 star reviews. I think most guests expect the gravel road and grassy trails since we are located in the mountains. Sorry we entered your cabin to adjust your hot water for ya, but your message asking us to fix it said nothing about trying to match up a time when you would be around to fix it. BTW the cabin was so cold when we arrived that condensation was running down the windows and temperature was 60 degrees in the cabin. We are sorry you didnt enjoy your stay like so many others have.
The cabin was comfortable and clean.
Our stay was exactly what we had hoped.
Cozy Cabin in Need of Some Maintenance
Four of us stayed in the cabin over Labor Day weekend. It is tucked in the woods with a back porch that is great to drink your morning coffee on and take in the views. There are eight total cabins, but it was still secluded and quiet. Overall it was a nice stay. However, the cabin is definitely in need of some maintenance. The grill had so much packed on food and grease that it almost caught our food on fire (hopefully you like your food burnt!). We didn't use the hot tub because there was a pile of dirt sitting at the bottom - obviously in need of being cleaned. The shower was an issue, with the water transitioning between scorching hot and freezing cold, with a few seconds in between to hurry up and wash yourself. We ended up learning that you have to turn the bathroom sink all the way on hot and the shower all the way on hot in order to balance the temperature. We expected the bugs that were outside the cabin (didn't have an issue with bugs inside), but we did not expect there to be bats swarming around the cabin at night. We woke up to find tons of bat droppings on the front and back porches. The wifi worked for us and we appreciated that we could buy firewood for the fire pit for only $5. It's a cute and cozy cabin that could be great with a little extra upkeep. Right now, though, I think it's a bit overpriced for the quality.
We have addressed the concerns and now have a new grill and bat houses for our bug eating friends so there are no bugs and mosquitoes around so all can enjoy the back porches and beautiful views.
Perfect cabin for a relaxing weekend away!
We spent a long weekend at the Mountaineer cabin relaxing and enjoying the beauty of nature around us. It was an amazing cabin with picture perfect scenery. The cabin provided everything we could have needed to make our stay perfect. We couldn’t be more pleased!
I enjoyed the cabin. I enjoyed the hot-tub and the amenities (cooking utensils, t.v.) in the cabin. WIFI was intermittent and was not available consistently. The roads to the cabin were a little worn and rough. Overall enjoyed the stay in the cabin.
The state says they will be out this month to patch the pot holes. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Very relaxing retreat!
My husband and I came out for my daughter's graduation and decided to check out a cabin instead of a hotel. This cabin was nice and clean, quaint, comfortable, and very peaceful -- we'd do it again! The only thing we didn't know was that getting there was quite an "adventure." Once we got off I68, we found ourselves traveling on very bumpy roads, dodging potholes for about a five mile stretch. We also had a tough time maintaining Wi-Fi -- but it wasn't that important. Though we chuckled about it, it was a nominal inconvenience. But, we really enjoyed the tranquility of our stay, and we loved sitting on the back deck listening to the quiet stream bubbling through the forest. Thank you, Mark and Sheila!
