Mara and Frank Butera
About Mara and Frank Butera
My parents built a summer home on Lake Lure in 1950. I have many wonderful memories swimming and water skiing here. As soon as I introduced Frank to Lake Lure, he fell in love with the place. So much so, we got married here under the Gazebo across from the beach. We knew that one day we would buy a home here. This became a family affair. My cousin's husband was the contractor. My husband being in the kitchen remodeling business built all of the kitchen and bathroom cabinets as well as the master suite furniture. The painted window in the living room was done by my cousin. And some of the photographs on the walls were taken by another cousin who is a professional photographer living in Lake Lure. We love our cottage and Lake Lure and hope that all who stay here, enjoy the peace and tranquility that this wonderful place provides.
Mara and Frank Butera purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Mara and Frank Butera chose Sunset Cove
We like that you can park directly in front of the house. Our street has easy access. No inclines for flat landers like ourselves. We feel like we are out in the woods, yet Ingles is only 2 miles away. The walk down to the boat house is great exercise. This house was in need of much repair, however we saw the potential and knew it was ours from the get go. I love the fact that we have so much land which we have future .plans to put in gardens. We also loved the knotty pine walls and wood floors and made a point of saving this.
What makes this Cottage unique
We feel the house has so much charm. It is updated, yet rustic with an old time mountain feel. Our decks are wonderful any time, but we particularly love it at night. Sitting outside with a glass of wine and listening to the sounds of nature is as relaxing as it gets. And during winter, we love sitting in front of the fire place and playing board games or doing puzzles. We have been here for every season. My husband loves the winter when there are no leaves on the trees and you can see everything. I love the late spring when the trees are full and the flowers are beginning to blossom. Whatever your season, you can't miss.

Lake Lure = Relaxation
My wife and I spent the week of 9/08-9/14/19 at this property right on Lake Lure. Immediately we loved the area for being a quiet neighborhood. Opened the door and it opens into a nice open area with the kitchen, dining room and living room making it a great place to entertain. We loved playing dominoes at night with the large dining room table right next to the kitchen. Lake was nice for my wife and her family enjoying the water with the floats, paddle board and the kayaks in the boat house. Overall, we loved it for the location and the proximity to Asheville (50-60 minute ride). Mara was awesome to talk to and was totally accessible if I did need her or her husband. Again, great place for scenery and peace and quiet.
So happy you enjoyed your stay and all that the lake has to offer. Hope to have you back!
Very cozy cabin in the trees on a quiet cove, but near enough to all the activities. Enjoyed sitting on the porches & taking out the canoe each early morning. Had fun playing board games with our teenage kids each evening as well. Love the lake & will be back!
So happy to hear! Especially since you had to evacuate due to the storm coming through. Looking forward to your return!
Another Great Visit to Stairway To Heaven and Lake Lure!
We stayed at Mara and Frank's home last year and had such a great time that the kids turned down a beach vacation in favor of returning to the lake again this year! Once again we had a wonderful time! The location of the house on a quiet cove close to the villages of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock is ideal. We spent many days enjoying the dock, boathouse, kayaks, paddleboard and canoe and just floating in the lake. There was plenty of room to spread out in the house with the many outdoor areas, screened porch, awesome firepit, etc. My parents enjoyed having their own space with the large downstairs master bedroom and bathroom and spending time together in the den/kitchen and outside space. Lake Lure and Chimney Rock are charming, friendly and offer activities for kids and adults alike. Mara is a great host, easy to communicate with, flexible and quick to respond or address any questions. Highly recommend this destination and this lake house if you are looking to relax, spend time with family and still keep the kids very entertained!
Natalie, it was a pleasure dealing with you as well. So happy to hear when families enjoy the house as much as we do. Looking forward to having you back again next summer!
the location of the cabin was outstanding , it was so great to enjoy the lake everyday.
the owners were easy to reach. The lake was amazing. the water toys like kayaks, canoe and paddleboard were great.
Thanks, it was very nice meeting you!
The house was perfect for our family! We all had a wonderful week swimming off the dock, relaxing around the house, kayaking and sight seeing. This is in a quiet neighborhood and we will be coming back again for sure! We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, they are really nice people and we look forward to seeing them again!
Thank you, we enjoyed meeting all of you as well. Looking forward to your return next summer!
June 2019 Rental
Great house. Great owners to deal with. Frank and Mara went above and beyond helping navigate over some issues that were truly out of their control.
Thanks! And you guys really rolled with the punches! Hope you will come back again!
The town of Chimney Rock is filled with many fun stores and restaurants. Chimney Rock Park is a 1000 acre park with wonderful hiking trails. Also available are riding stables, rafting excursions, zip-line tours, fly fishing, golf, boat tours and rentals. The city of Asheville is filled with artist colonies and great shopping. The Grove Park Inn Hotel is a must see as well as Biltmore House and Gardens. Hendersonville is only 30 minutes away and also has great crafts shops and the Flat Rock theatre with live plays. If you are a Harley enthusiast, you will love riding here. Every curve offers natural beauty. Ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and take in all that it has to offer. And of course for the daredevils, give The Tale of the Dragon a try. And if you just want to relax, go on a picnic. Eat at Larkins restaurant and enjoy the beautiful lake view.
