About Tom Kronthaler
We came to Utah from Buffalo, New York in search of the Greatest Snow on Earth. After teaching skiing in the East, we sought out the great mountain skiing of the West. The year we arrived in Utah we began instructing at Alta with the Alf Engen Ski School. We started renting our townhome to skiers shortly thereaafter. No one in the Salt Lake area has been so committed to skiers. We were married at Alta on a powder day in March next to Cecret Lake and in sight of the Sugarloaf chairlift. We skied down the mountain after the ceremony. Because of our affiliation and status with the Professional Ski Instructors of America, we have given clinics and exams at all the Utah ski areas. We are personal friends with virtually all of the ski school directors in Utah and many of the instructors. We can give you inside and in-depth information about Utah skiing that is unmatched by any of our competitors. We care for our own rental properties and talk personally with each of our guests. As veterans of the ski teaching profession, we understand your vacation needs from your point of view and are uniquely qualified to assist you with your vacation plans. We can supply answers to virtually all of your ski-related questions upon your arrival in Salt Lake City and can even arrange your rental car and lift-ticket needs in advance. We own our own property and care for it, we answer our own phones, and we are always there to make sure your vacation is the best it can be. Please be our guest and discover Utah skiing in affordable comfort.
Why Tom Kronthaler chose Cottonwood Heights
We wanted our location to be the most flexible for people wanting the opportunity to ski all of the great resorts surrounding the Salt Lake Valley. If snow storms close Little Cottonwood Canyon and lock people in their hotel rooms, our guests have the option of skiing Brighton, Solitude, or traveling a little farther to visit Snowbasin, home of the 2002 Winter Olympics, or down to Robert Redford's Sundance. But our hearts are in the Cottonwood canyons, and we wanted our best access to Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude.
What makes this Townhouse unique
Our guests rent directly from us. We don't just hand off our property to a third-party rental agent. We answer your calls, answer your questions, and are always there to help. We can arrange discounts for you on car rentals, ski/board rentals, and lift tickets. Most importantly, our guests enjoy a fully furnished home, not a hotel room. Winter sports isn't just a business for us, it is a way of life that we share with all of our guests.

Wonderful condo for a group of people
We were a family "reunion" group on a ski week, with lots of different schedules, etc. The condo was large enough for folks to relax, had several sitting areas (large kitchen table and 2 living rooms), and a kitchen that was equipped with all the essentials we needed over the course of the week. Lovely stay.
Thank You for staying with us and we are very happy our townhouse worked out for a wonderful family reunion and ski vacation for the whole group. We hope to see you again in the future. Nancy and Tom
Wonderful location with helpful owner
We enjoyed our stay in February with 2 families consisting of 4 kids aged 7-11. The rental has plenty of room for everyone and is well stocked with extra blankets to make it cozy. The rental is 3 levels: 2 full/queen beds on the lower level along with the garage entrance. 1 bedroom with 3 full/queen beds and a futon on the main level with front door entrance and 2 bedrooms on the top floor each with 2 beds (one 2 queens/full and one with a queen/full and a twin). We enjoyed the upper-level loft area that had a fireplace and cozy couches with a TV. There is a full bath on each floor. Location was great with easy access to multiple ski resorts. We visited Alta, Solitude, Snowbird and Deer Valley during our 5-day stay. The owner Tom was extremely helpful and always available to answer questions and help with any issues. The rental was well stocked with everything you might need to enjoy your stay including sleds for the kids. We would definitely stay here again on a future visit. Thank you, Tom!
Thank You Renee for being wonderful guests. We loved having two caring and considerate families that enjoyed our townhouse . We hope to see you in the future and Thank You for your wonderful review. Regards Tom
The home/condo was excellent for a large group (9). Everything that you expected to be there, was there. It was clean. It was in a great location for skiers. Our group consisted of 7 males and 1 couple and there were beds and space for everyone. If we return to Salt Lake next year, I will be contacting the owners again.
Thank You Bill, Nancy and I take great pride in our townhouse and we love having wonderful guests. Please come back and enjoy Utah in the future
Great Ski House
This is a very clean comfortable home near the base of the mountain and a block away from a good grocery store. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pans, and slow cooker. A block away is the 953 ski bus (free for season ticket holders) that drops you off at Snowbird or Alta. They had some sleds we could borrow too. We really enjoyed our stay.
Sarah ,It was a pleasure having your family enjoy our townhouse and the wonderful skiing in Utah. Please come back again. Nancy
Nice owners, good townhouse
Would definitely recommend, no complaints whatsoever. We'll be back
We Hit the Jackpot!
What a vacation! This was our first time visiting Utah, and boy did we ever pick the right place to stay. Tom and Nancy made everything so easy for us; not only did they provide us this amazing house to rent, but they also provided discounts on our car rental, ski rentals, and lift tickets while we were here! They even recommended specific ski areas for us to go to based on our skill level (or lack thereof!). Our house had a beautiful kitchen with pots, pans, and everything else we needed to make our meals while we were here. We could even walk to the grocery store a couple blocks down the street too. We had such a great time; the skiing in Utah is the best on Earth (just like they say on the license plates there); we will definitely be coming back, and we will absolutely be renting from Tom & Nancy again when we do.
Thank You for your kind words and we hope you keep coming back to Utah Skiing. We will do our best to create the Best Ever Ski vacation for your friends and family. Nancy and Tom
Walking distance to the ski bus and the grocery store. We have the best location in the valley for access to Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude. 10 to 15 minutes to the ski areas!
