Why Alexis Averbuck chose Idra
We sailed into the harbor decades ago and fell in love with this mansion perched above the Hydra Harbour. We bought it immediately and restored it in the traditional style, adding mod cons and keeping its unique character as a sea captain's house.
What makes this Villa unique
Close to the harbor and swimming, yet totally private with an enclosing wall, the compound offers a special combination of peace, with excellent views and a sense of openness and grandeur, while still being a short walk downhill into town.

Many thanks to Daniela and Alexis for a wonderful stay. The Stone House is well positioned and extremely well appointed. The master bedroom is one of the greatest rooms on the island. We really appreciated the crisp white cotton sheets and towels. Attention to details like the bedding, toiletries and amenities make staying here a pleasure and Daniela could not be more helpful. It is refreshing to see a well decorated property that is not overly personal - this allows the visitor to truly feel at home and not like you are camping out in someone else's place. We have admired the Stone House from the port for years and are very happy to have finally discovered the joy of staying within the thick stone walls.
Thank you, Len! We loved hosting you and so appreciate sharing our beloved island with wonderful guests like you who so get the nature of the island!
We appreciated Alexis' cooperation and hospitality very much. Daniela was the perfect property manager and a great new friend on the island. The fresh fruit, bread, cheeses, flowers, wine, etc, were a step above and beyond most rentals we visit and very much appreciated. The combination of fans and the breeze through the master bedroom windows makes the a/c not terribly missed. Thank you for everything!
Thank you, Lynne! We loved hosting you and are so glad you enjoyed yourselves!
Magnificent Stone House
We have visited frequently and find it hard not to stay at the Stone house due to its comfort and incredible views and wonderful host Alexis and concierge Daniela who can’t do enough to make your stay a memorable experience ,

Great House up a lot of Steps
We stayed for a long stay in May and part of June. The house is very very nice with great views of the harbor, close to town, and close to a few beaches. It has all the modern amenities you would want. The indoor and outdoor space is really great. I would stay again absolutely, it is a great place and very, very nice. The master BR in particular is great, we let our friends take that and the other BR is big and quieter. I really, really liked the house and was very comfortable the entire time. They also have high speed internet that works as wells anything in Greece. :)
In Hydra, you have to make a choice about the views you want. Either you want views in which case you need to climb, or you don't care and would rather just have a central convenient place to walk home to with no steps. This is up 220 steps, which we appreciated because it was good exercise and we are fitness-oriented. But if you don't want to do that multiple times a day, you need to think about it.
The only other possible negative I can think of is that like most European homes, they don't use screens on the windows. As it got hotter, having windows open at night was an absolute must, and there are mosquitos. They provide a few mosquito remediation measures to combat this. We were in the back room and I thought it may get pretty hot and stuffy back there in hot months. All rooms have at least one ceiling fan, but there is no AC. Again, this is typical for Hydra, and did not detract much.
Finally, the owner and manager are really great people who genuinely want to make sure you are happy. I mentioned in passing that we needed internet to do work while there and they installed repeaters in all the rooms, which was totally not necessary but really added to the convenience. Any minor thing that went wrong (and none were a big deal at all) is noted by the housekeeper and they come and fix it immediately. It was a really nice stay. I say this as someone who travels extensively and stays at very nice 5 star hotels etc. All of us were very satisfied.
Thank you so much! We loved having you and it was a pleasure to know how much you embraced the house and Hydra life! Brilliant! We hope we'll see you back on the island again. All the best, Alexis
Gorgeous place to stay!
We had such a perfect stay in Hydra. We arrived and were greeted by our wonderful concierge Daniela. I was so happy to see her as we disembarked from the ferry. She had arranged for donkeys to take our luggage to the home and gave us a quick tour of town, pointing out lots of key places that we enjoyed during our trip. The home was perfection. It was clean, beautiful, fresh flowers were in the rooms. Wine, cheese, bread and fruit was provided so we could enjoy happy hour immediately on one of the beautiful patios. Everything was very comfortable. I would highly recommend staying at this house. Alexis, the owner, did a great job communicating with us ahead of time. We would definitely stay here again!
Hi Dan! Thank you for such a glowing review. It was our true pleasure to host you and are thrilled you had a great time. All the very best, and we look forward to having you back in the future. Alexis
The small island of Hydra is found in the Saronic Gulf, 61km southwest of Piraeus (Athens' main port) and 7km from the Peloponnesus. The inhabited islands of Spetses, Poros, and Aegina are nearby, and can be seen in a daytrip, as can some of the towns of the Peloponnesus. Small, uninhabited islets lie within view off the coast and to the south. Visitors can reach Hydra by sea (90 minutes by hydrofoil). During the high season (June to September), temperatures range from the mid 20s C (80s F) to the mid-to-high 30s C (90s F) in July and August.
