About Monica Grimm Kuryla
I grew up in Rochester, NY, spending weekends at the cabin with my family. I moved to Syracuse, NY to attend college and have been living here ever since. I am a full time librarian, wife, and mother of two adorable children.
Why Monica Grimm Kuryla chose Wolcott
The cabin was built over a 20 year period by my father, a skilled tradesman and union carpenter. My father inherited the land from his grandmother, a native of Webster, NY. We spent every weekend up at the Lake while he was building it from the ground up.

Perfect Fall Getaway
I enjoyed this log cabin home with my family of four and our friend’s family of four. We had adequate space, privacy and amenities. The kids (5,6,7 and7) had plenty to do; inside and out. The view is great and the water front was fun to explore. We walked to the local winery as well as the secondary access area to Chimney Bluffs. We all agreed that this would be a great location to come back to!
Best sunsets ever!
The cabin is spacious, well-equipped and what a great location. Chimney Bluffs State Park is a few steps in one direction and a local winery a few steps in the other direction. Lovely property for anyone looking to kick back and relax by the lake.
Great vacation away from it all!
Absolutely loved this wonderfully large cabin right on Lake Ontario! The owner was easy to access with any questions, and forthcoming with all information. This turned into one of my family’s favorite vacations so far! It was nice having limited internet access-forced my teens to actually talk to us. 😊. My dog loved the lake, as did my kids. We utilized the small beach daily. The state park being literally a walk down the road was perfect, as were the friendly neighbors. I can’t say enough about this trip. All around wonderful rental!
Fun for our family
Our family really enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the lake. Water shoes are needed as the beach and lake is rocky. The house was a real log cabin which was fun and charming. Be aware there is no A/C or drinking water, no WI-FI, no washer/dryer and no live TV but lots of VHS movies. Monica was quick to respond anytime I had a question. It was spacious for our family of 8
Beautiful Place but....
Love the over all "cabin" and the area....It could use some updating/better cleaning..I get it is a "cabin" but... for example the curtains on the windows where old and dirty, some windows opened but the screen where not in some and the screens on the sliding doors were old, falling off and ducked taped..you need to use them or keep the doors closed due to the bugs(again, with a little cleaning and trimming around the beautiful yard I think it would of helped with that too) There was a tree that fell and was left laying in the yard(we moved it to the side). .the walk down to the beach was far (I was ok with that ) but again...the weeds were over grown on the stairway down and a little unsafe (I ended up doing some trimming so I could feel better about the kids using them) I would of loved to see the over grown trees and weeds cut down so you would have a better view of the lake.. My family is not afraid of bugs or a little "outdoor" living but those are some of the things we felt would of made a improvement ...loved the roomy space inside and the lay out, the deck was awesome...Thank You..
I am very sorry that you were dissatisfied with our cabin. I would like to respond to 2 of the issues you mentioned;
1) the tree branch down in the front yard was from the heavy wind and rain storms we have been experiencing in the past 2 weeks. Prior to your stay we moved the branch to the fire pit out of the lawn thinking that your might like to use it for a fire.
2) the brush and overgrown plants on the stairs leading down to the beach are there intentionally to protect our property from the loss of frontage we experience each year by erosion from the harsh winters and rough lake conditions. By keeping thr plants and trees there, it not only protects our property, but saves us from future land frontage loss.
Needs a little TLC but we had a blast!
The owner was quick with replies and any information we needed and the cottage itself is a little slice of heaven with great views and easy access to the lake. Bob's Big M in Walcott was an amazing little grocery store with anything you might need. The cottage has everything you can think of but guests hadn't cleaned up after themselves and certain items were broken and/or dirty...it took us 45 min to clean the grill - a bit of a bummer. Neighbors were lovely and we would have given this a 5 but wanted to alert those of you who don't enjoy something a bit rough around the edges - this really is as advertised - rustic!
Thorpe Vineyards is in walking distance from the cabin. They offer wine tastings, etc.
Bob's Big M is the nearest grocery store located ~8 miles from the cabin in the village of Wolcott
