Map
Set in the rolling Umbrian hills, Monte Lagello is perfectly located for exploring the lovely art and architecture of the ancient hilltowns. Perugia, capital of Umbria is just 30 minutes away, Assisi, Orvieto and Todi less than 1 hour. Further afield famous towns and cities such as Florence, Siena, Gubbio, Spello and Rome can each be visited in a day. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, picnicking and mountain-biking and there is horse riding and golf available locally. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sports at nearby Lake Trasimeno. For shopping Marsciano is only 20 mins away, where there are all amenities and a railway station. Locally the pretty village of Spina has a supermarket, butchers, bank, pharmacy and cantina for Umbrian wine. There are many excellent local restaurants and everywhere there are cafes with outdoor terraces to sit and watch the world go by. Access is easy with Rome airports 2 hours away and Ryanair now fly to Perugia.
Other Activities: water sports at Lake Trasimeno, golf at Perugia.

Ask a questionAbout Tony and Julia Whetton
Tony and Julia met whilst serving in the Royal Navy over 30 years ago and now live on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. We spend 6-8 weeks at Monte Lagello in the early Summer as well as Spring and Autumn visits.
Tony and Julia Whetton purchased this castle in 2003
Why Tony and Julia Whetton chose Collazzone
After visiting many parts of Italy we fell in love with Umbria and when staying near Todi found Monte Lagello and knew straight away it was the right place for us as our second home. There is so much history to the castle and it has been beautifully restored. The swimming pool surrounded by olive trees with endless views over the Tiber valley towards Assisi and the Sibellini Mountains is wonderful. We love the peace and tranquility of the place and it is a privilege to be able to stay in such a beautiful historic building. We also enjoy the proximity to so many of the treasures of Umbria such as Perugia, Todi, Assisi, Orvieto and numerous unspoilt hill towns as well as Lake Trasimeno. We also enjoy venturing further afield into Tuscany and Le Marche and occasionally as far as Rome or either coast
What makes this castle unique
Having viewed several apartments in the castle we realised No12 had everything we wanted; our visitors agree that the private roof terrace with views over the castle roofs and surrounding hills is unique and is the perfect place to eat or relax any time of day and at night you are under the canopy of stars. The big patio doors mean that the living area is very light and we have equipped the apartment for easy everyday living with a well equipped kitchen - I am a keen cook so enjoy preparing meals there. Although is WiFi available in the Club House and by the pool we are one of the few apartments with wifi available throughout.
