House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6 maximum - no exceptions)
The first floor was built sometime in the 1940s. The second floor was added in 1954. Clean, up-to-date but not fancy. It is a beach house and you'll always track in some sand. Lake Michigan is very high this summer. Photos as of June 19 and Army Corps of Engineers projections are posted.
Sara purchased this House in 1940
Why Sara chose Douglas
If you like the beach and privacy, this is the place. No other houses around, right on the beach. Be sure you consider the steps though. Everyone should be ok with using the steps.
What makes this House unique
When you are at the beach house you have quiet and privacy since there are no other houses nearby. All the activities of Saugatuck are just 2 miles away. You have the resorty shopping-eating-art experience along with your quiet, private beach time.
No refunds for cancellations made after payment is made
Gorgeous views & surroundings, private and very relaxing
Really cool & unique beach house, literally right on the beach. The lake was very high and there wasn’t really any beach on the property, but there was some beach a little further north to lay out & hang out on. The house was very clean and Sara prepared graciously for our arrival and stay. Watching sunsets over the water while having dinner on the porch was wonderful. The steps can be a little challenging, but Sara ensured we were going to be okay with them before we verified the rental and it’s what enables the house to be built on the hillside so close to the water when few other houses there are. We really enjoyed our time there and appreciated Sara as well!
My family (wife and 2 little kids) and I had a wonderful time. Can't beat the location.
I stayed here for a week with my husband, toddler and parents. It was a great week! The house itself is a pretty standard lake house, not fancy but clean and well kept. Perfect for what we were looking for. The sunsets were magical over the water. The beach was smaller than previous years (as clearly communicated in the listing) because of how high the lake is, but we still had plenty of beach for my little girl to play and for the adults to relax. The patio is a great space, especially at night with the string lights, we spent most of our time out there. The owner Sara was great to work with, very responsive. We will definitely be back!
Great Stay, great beach house
The property was accurately described, great location, perfect beach house for family getaway. Sara was a great host, check in was easy.
So glad you could visit and enjoyed your time at the beach house. Thank you for taking such good care of it and hope to see you again. You were perfect guests. S
We loved our stay at Sara’s beach house. The close proximity to the water was the best part!
The home was well stocked with everything you need to cook, as well as plenty of towels, beach towels, extra linens and pillows. The basics were in the fridge and Sara left us a great basket of sand toys for our two young daughters to play with. Communication was a breeze, and Sara made every effort to make sure we were well taken care of. We had such a wonderful time, that my family wants to make an annual trip to the property. We can’t wait to come back!
LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!
Wonderful private house directly on Lake Michigan. We enjoyed morning walks on the beach, long afternoons sitting on the beach right outside the house and spectacular sunsets in the evening. The towns of Douglas and Saugatuck are close by, but you won't feel like leaving!
The house is older, clean and has lots of windows to let in the lake sounds and breezes. There is a nice large patio as well as an upstairs porch. The beds are comfortable and the shower has nice water flow. There are plenty of fans as well as a/c for the bedrooms which we did not need to use. You need to be aware of the steps down to the house they would be difficult to navigate with small children or for anyone with mobility issues.
Sara was an excellent host! The process from booking to arrival was seamless. We hope to return next year and would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a private house on Lake Michigan.
