About this property

Four Winds is one of the oldest homes on the island, it’s bright colours and wood and stone construction make it a beautiful example of typical West Indian architecture, with locally hand-crafted furniture and cabinetry throughout. The magical atmosphere is something that’s difficult to put into words . . . people who’re drawn to this house are never disappointed….guests tend to say when they arrive, that no photos or words can conjure up the unique charm and quaintness, the spectacular views and the particularly addictive feeling of being far removed from the “real world”.

That said, Four Winds is not for those seeking luxury resort accommodations, it’s quaint and unique in the best sense of the word.

Situated at the top of Soldier Hill, Four Winds is 10 mins drive from Road Town, and less than 5 mins to Cane Garden Bay beach (live music and restaurants) and Brewers Bay beach (quiet strolls and impressive snorkelling). With the convenience of the swimming pool, you may not want to leave the property for your entire vacation!

The property consists of 3 separate buildings joined by stone paths, decks and porches.

Stepping through an arched gate in the stone wall you enter a private, peaceful, idyllic oasis overlooking Cane Garden Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and a collection of islands disappearing into the distance. This covered porch is an outdoor living room that acts as the heart of the property.

The Main House is directly ahead and the largest of the 3 buildings. It’s home to a light and bright open-plan kitchen and sitting room, a bathroom with shower, alfresco dining on the covered porch and a master bedroom with queen bed where you wake up to ocean views towards the West end of Tortola and beyond.

The pool is nestled in the terraced gardens overlooking the South Western shores of Tortola, and the garden is well established and always being added to…flowers and fruit trees fill the air with a delicious tropical perfume. FOUR WINDS offers both relaxation and adventure and the perfect place from which to explore the secrets of BVI.

Beautiful true island experience

Place was a perfect location and beautiful setting! It was created to take the most beautiful pictures everywhere on the property. It was no frills but it was a little oasis, you pass through the gate and you have this security, privacy, hidden gem. The location was perfect. There were some things that need some attention but if you know this ahead of time and understand you are not booking a 5 star hotel it’s perfect. There are bugs, a lot of them,mosquitoes, giant centipedes and tons of little lizards, and an occasional tree frog. There is no real way to keep these out as the door system (even with the screens) has major gaps across the bottom and nothing is really sealed but it didn’t take away from our trip. Linens are very tired but clean, only ac in the 1 room.

Charming, comfortable home in a gorgeous setting.

“Four Winds” is an absolute gem, a lovely, relaxed and comfortable home with gorgeous views, incredible privacy, and a charming atmosphere. The house is very well equipped, and thoughtfully laid out. It might not be ideal for folks who aren’t comfortable driving on the Caribbean‘s steep and winding roads, as it is somewhat remote, but if you’re used to that it’s not an issue. The rental agent Katie was very helpful, as were the wonderful housekeeper Noreen and gardener Warren. Beautiful very uncrowded beaches (Brewer’s Bay) are very near, as well as the town of Cane Garden Bay, which has groceries, restaurants, bars with live music and gas. It’s about 15-20 minutes into Road Town for the Ferries, larger groceries, pharmacies, the delightful French Deli, as well as “Steakation”, an artisanal butcher and foodie store. Tortola has a huge population of wild chickens, so earplugs would be useful for light sleepers, as the roosters start crowing early, but this isn’t unique to this property. The house is spread across several cottages, with beautiful gardens and winding stone paths connecting the indoor and outdoor living spaces. There are constant breezes, spectacular views, gorgeous sunsets, great privacy and enough space for a group to socialize or spent quiet time alone. The pool area is lovely, as is the outdoor living room. The Wi-Fi was fast enough for me to work from home and take zoom meetings. The only cautionary notes: this is a very open indoor / outdoor style of living in a natural environment. If you’re phobic about small critters (lizards, frogs etc) it may be challenging. The stone pathways could be difficult to navigate if you have mobility issues or are elderly. These weren’t issues for us, but could be for some guests. Overall, this is a stunning, atmospheric and charming gem of a home in a gorgeous place. It was one of the nicest vacation experiences I’ve ever had. We did a day boat charter and explored various beaches, but it was honestly hard to tear ourselves away from the lovely home and Brewer’s Bay to do other things! *****

Tree House Heaven

Our first impression was not so great, but after staying for a week we grew to love the house, location, and view. Yes, there were mosquitoes, little lizards, and roosters crowing, but the beautiful view was worth it. The pool, outdoor living room, and washer and dryer were a plus. The roads are narrow and driving on the left side was challenging, but the beaches and restaurants are spectacular.

Great location with excellent view.

This property was everything advertised and more. From the historic Caribbean architecture to the breath taking views of Cane Garden Bay. We enjoyed ourselves so much in the home we had to draw straws to see who was going to leave on errands.

Why they chose this property

We sailed into Cane Garden Bay in 1970, and thought we had died and gone to heaven. We dropped anchor, swam ashore and were welcomed into Stanley’s, the only restaurant on the beach, it was set among the palm trees, one even had a tire swing, this gorgeous beach was deserted, and we thought we had found paradise.
30 years passed and we had the opportunity to purchase our dream house that over looks that very first landing. Stanley’s and Cane Garden Bay has grown. The bay is now one of the most fun locations on the island. Alive with pleasures, water sports, sailing, surfing and corn rolls for the kids. At night it lights up with music, dining and dancing. We have had a great 10 years renovating the house keeping the style consistent with West Indian tradition and love of color. We wish we could be there all year round but work calls us back to the States and we love the opportunity to share FOUR WINDS with those that love romance and a taste of traditional Caribbean living.
