About this property

On West Grand Traverse Bay -Private Carriage House -Sleeps 4 Between TC & S Bay

This property offers 100 feet on West Grand Traverse Bay across from Power island. At the end of the dock is a sitting deck with a 2 person glider - perfect for reading, catching some rays and enjoying the breezes off the water. Enjoy the sunrise over the bay with a cup of coffee or the early evening at sunset with a glass of wine to experience the changing colors of the sky. We call it the "afterglow"once the sun has set. There are some awesome moon rises over the water -

If you're bringing your boat, there is a free public launch 5 minutes north onto West Grand Traverse Bay or a free public launch onto Lake Leelanau also 5 minutes away at the end of Bingham Road. There is room on site here for the boat and trailer (Please contact me with the length) . We do not have a hoist to keep your boat in the water overnight but, there is a floating buoy for temporary day docking. Our dock is usually about 300 feet or so out into the water- There is a ladder into the water at the end for swimmers. We also have a 6'x18' floating pad we can drop in the water once the water temp is warmer.

Feel free to use the fire pit. Just walk past our home down to the water for bonfires and roasting marshmallows- we have wood you can use on site. You can see downtown Traverse City aglow to the South and enoy the stars and often the satellites overhead. With the water lapping the shore, it creates an evening experience that you don't want to end. Be sure to bring your bottle of wine down with you:)

The carriage house apartment is decorated in fun beachy colors with cherry wood flooring throughout. There is second floor deck with water view and gas grill. Interior offers a kitchen with electric stove and cooking utensils. Living room has TV with cable, wireless internet) and a couch that converts to full bed . The bathroom is cottage UP North style with bead board, large tiled shower and antique wicker vanity with vessel sink. The main bedroom has a queen bed with memory foam mattress, a tv and a small walk in closet with extra towels, blankets etc.

We invite you to share this wonderful place with us. Our location is nicely located as a base for enjoying Leelanau County and the Grand Traverse Area.

We are an active mostly retired couple who moved into what was our Traverse City cottage in 2006. That is when we built the carriage house with the apartment above so there would be room for our children to come visit. We have a 2 1/2 year old mini bernedoodle named Louie on property. He's still in the active learning phase and gets excited to see new people. We are avid golfers, love wine , art and music- which is why we found this to be an area perfect for us. It's amazing how many people we have met since living here who are so similar to us..

Victor and I are husband and wife home builder/remodelers- We’ve been phasing out of our business and beginning retirement. We moved Up North from the Pinckney Chain of Lakes Area of Livingston County. We wanted to be somewhere our children and future grandchildren would loved to come and visit. Traverse City and Leelanau County have far surpassed our expectations. We absolutely love the activity and social aspects of the area. If you are looking for things to do and see- please feel free to ask us.

We totally understand couples who are looking to move to the area. That's why we love the business that we we're in- It's nice to see the dream happen for others like it did for us!

Why they chose this property

We used to come up north with our oldest son's travel soccer team for tournaments. Over a five year span, the entire family looked forward to our week here in August. We decided to look for a cottage that we could eventually move to when all of the kids were out of high school.
We checked out the entire area over a period of years. we knew that we needed parking- so some of those small lots right on a road were not for us. It actually took us 5 years to find the right spot at the right price. This property was in very rough shape and we've worked to change it over the years.

We also knew we would be working and needed to be close to town. Being just north of Traverse City allows us to miss the summer traffic from festivals and hotels on a daily basis. We are within 10 minutes of the action when we want it and we can enjoy the peacefulness of wonderful Leelanau County every day.

Our home is located down at the water on a 1 acre site. M-22 is a wonderful access road to everything but we have lots of privacy and parking- exactly what fit our needs.

This area offers much in the way of entertainment.- The Dennos Museum always offers a wonderful exhibit and music performances in the Milliken Auditorium. There are many art galleries to showcase the talent here in Northern Michigan. Two small theatres: The State Theater downtown Traverse City and The Bay in Suttons Bay are restored wonderful old theaters featuring great movies. Interlochen for the Performing Arts is a venue for wonderful music performances. Traverse City has The Old Town Playhouse for community theater and The Opera House for a variety of shows.

What makes this property unique

We can boat to dinner from our dock-north to Knot Just a Bar in Omena Point. Northport, or downtown Suttons Bay. This is why we love West Bay- there are great places to travel to by boat . Sometimes we'll take a bottle of wine out on the boat to the island and watch the sun set and the moon rise. During Cherry Fest, we motor down by West End Beach and listen to music from the Cherry Festival Stage. Nothing beats watching the Air Show and fireworks from the water. Being located between Suttons Bay and TC has been perfect for us. Both have wonderful downtowns and restaurants. Festivals are a huge thing in this area and we're located close to all of them.
We are near the trails for biking, hiking and cross country skiing. We happen to love our closest golf course- Bahle Farms. As avid golfers, the problem is finding the time to enjoy all of the courses.

The best thing about this place- you can hear the noises of the bay- water lapping or waves crashing, seagulls & ducks, swooshing as swans lift off. The bay calms you down and brings you back to nature. We think it's a wonderful place and would really miss it. For several years, we had definitely struggled with the high water levels of Lake Michigan. Most of the area has experienced changes as well. The water came over our rock wall and flooded the yard with about 12" of water- This has resulted in some serious wall and yard work every Spring. The ebb and flow of the lake is natural but maddening at times. I suspect water levels will fall again and leave us with tall grasses and cat tails- that's how it was in 2013. Basically, you just have to go with the flow of Mother Nature🙂

Hope we have a chance to meet you, Nancy, Victor and Louie
