Family Weekend Away
Accommodation were acceptable. Some safely upgrades need to be implemented regarding railing in main cottage stairs to bedrooms, loose the musty furniture in porch and outside needs to replaced as not shutting properly. On in all, it is a old fashion cottage!

Quiet, shady spot minutes from quaint village of Haliburton
My family and I (8 adults, 3 children) rented both cabins for a 4 night stay during the week. Ample sleeping space, paddle boat and canoe in excellent condition, beautiful dock with lots of room for all of us to sit and enjoy the sunshine and water. Water was nice and deep (no getting tangled in weeds) for swimming and not much in the way of motorized water traffic during the week. Lots to do in and around Haliburton (Farmer’s Market and trails). The kitchens in both cabins were fairly well stocked in terms of plates, silverware, and cookware. Furnishings are rustic and cleanliness was subpar. The bathrooms in both cottages were smelly. The main cottage has mice and squirrels can get in the porch, although our host Sam gave us lots of warning that we would likely encounter critters. If you have a large group and intend on spending most of your time outdoors, it’s certainly worth a visit. Sam is a friendly and helpful host with lots of suggestions for things to do.

Great Week at the Cottages
Our week at the cottages was fantastic. Sam met us there and showed us around the cottages and property. He also answered my email questions immediately and was very helpful. The buildings are definitely "cottages" and we had some furry visitors at times but they were not a bother at all. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and the spring water was great. Even though the weather was very hot and humid for a few days, the fans in the cottages made sleeping more comfortable. The property, including the docks, is quite shady for most of the day so sun worshippers may not appreciate this. It would be nice if some trees were trimmed or removed to improve the view of the beautiful lake and allow for swimmers to dry off in the sun. There are lots of stairs from the main cottage to the docks but no one in my party had an issue with this. The large fire pit was great as it allowed for lots of people to enjoy the fire together. Maybe we got lucky but the mosquitos were not bad at all. For the boaters, it is a long transit from the dock to Drag Lake. There is a narrow with lots of tree stumps, rocks and shoals which can be tricky to navigate if you don't go slow and trim your motor up as far as you can. Fishing off the dock was great for the first few days, catching some decent sized small mouth bass. Later in the week, when the temperature went way up, the fish lost their appetites and stopped biting. Overall, I would highly recommend these cottages/property to people wanting a true cottage experience and yet are only 10 minutes from town.
