About this property

Tranquility Estate - Your Idyll In The Hustle And Bustle Of Kingston

Tranquility Estate has been our home for the last 15 years – first as a holiday getaway and now as a permanent residence. It is one of the most beautiful homes in Kingston, in the exclusive area of Jacks Hill.

We offer bed and breakfast facilities in the main house only.

We have a self contained studio that sleeps 2.

The house sits on three levels, the main house containing 4 bedroom.

A self-contained studio apartment which overlooks the swimming pool at the lower level.

The property covers just under 6,000 sq. ft and our Mediterranean style house is built of red bricks and mahogany with cool black marble floor throughout. The Estate sits on 12 acres of Jamaican hillside and offers 320° views of Kingston, the surrounding hills and mountains and is the last house at the end of a private road. When you’re on the veranda, you can choose the dazzling views of Kingston or the serenity of the hills and mountains. We have a terraced garden, home to the ever blooming Bougainvillea, avocados, oranges, and lime trees along with our bee hives.

One of my many skills is that I am a trained Cordon Bleu cook, who loves to do just that. In addition to cooking, I love all kinds of music, the theatre, travel, culture, reading and collecting books, politics and my most favourite – people. At present, I work with the gardeners with the clear aim of turning the Estate into one of self-sufficiency, so that in time we will produce we will produce most of the food eaten on the Estate. It is a very exciting time! We have planted bananas, tomatoes, okra, yams, cassava, potatoes, sweet potatoes, red peas, gungo peas, spinach, callaloo, pumpkin and watermelons – no small task! The Estate already has growing 7 types of mango, grapefruit, lychees, oranges, limes, coconut, avocado pear, soursop and other fruits and vegetables. If you would like a tour of the grounds (and you have strong boots and a good head for heights) just ask me and we will provide you a walking stick and show you around.

I look forward to sharing my home with you and I’ll do everything possible to ensure you enjoy your stay.

This is one of the most beautiful homes in Kingston, built of red brick, concrete and mahogany and decorated with an English eye - from my years in London. The house is also fully mosquito netted so the mozzies should leave you alone! The bedroom is furnished with a queen sized bed, dressing table, chair and sofa. There is a walk-in wardrobe, and a large en-suite bathroom with very really large shower, hand basin and toilet. The views show the hills and mountains of Jamaica, and a little of Kingston.\n\nI, or one of my children are usually on the property. At present, I work with the gardeners with the clear aim of turning the estate into one of self sufficiency so that we are producing most of the food we eat. It's a very exciting time! We have planted, coconuts, bananas, plantain and a lot of vegetables, and of course we already have mango and avocado trees already on the estate. The view will blow your mind, wake up early for the sunrise and morning dawn and stay up late with a dark rum to enjoy the sunset and subsequent dusk.\n\nYou have access to the sitting room, the library which is laden with books and the dining room which sits 10. If it is mango season, pick one from the hillside for a morning snack. There is also a swimming pool which is currently undergoing renovation as I type, which I hope may be shortly available. The house offers 'tranquility', a cool resting place after the heat of Kingston. There is a fan is in the room however it is unlikely that you will need it as the nights are cool on the hill. A house built of red brick, concrete and mahogany.\n\nPlease respect us and the property as we would yours. If you would like to have friends over please clear it with us first, it won't be a problem but we do like to know who's coming over! We want you to enjoy your stay in Jamaica so please let us know if you need anything.\n\nOurs is a private road, with beautiful houses belonging to affluent people in who work in the city but want to escape from it after the working day. \n\nThis is a beautifully maintained area of Kingston, many safely walk the hill, as I do with friends and my dog. For an entrepreneur with a successful company in London, I am extremely laid back and enjoying my return to Jamaica.\n\nI am happy to chat with you of an evening but understand that you may have your own plans so I look forward to having you to stay and will do all I can to help you have the most fabulous time in Jamaica.\n\n

Tranquility and Hospitality ........... perfect
Well, what a wonderful place to stay up on "the hill". Superb views, excellent room, wonderful house and a fantastic host. I stayed for 5 nights and felt very welcome from the minute I arrived. Lorna is living the dream and soaking up the views on a daily basis :) Highly recommend staying here and don't be put off by the hill location - it's a 10 minute drive down to Kingston and Lorna has a plethora of friendly taxi drivers she can recommend if you're not driving - "Evening Chris" is brilliant. I'll definitely be staying there again when next in Kingston as I have to try more of the wonderful Jamaican food :) Thank you Lorna.

A Great home with a lovely host.
My family and I stayed here and we had a really great time. The room was beautiful and it was great having a separate bed for my son! The views were breath-taking and Lorna was the consummate host. Brutus, her dog was very friendly with our son and they had some fun playing fetch in the driveway! The food she cooked was sublime, some of the best Caribbean food I've had. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stunning view, beautiful home!
My husband and I had a lovely stay here, it was the perfect romantic getaway being up in the hills from the noise of Kingston. We ate out for dinner but if the dinner we had is anything like the breakfast that Lorna cooked us, we should have had dinner with her too! We had an amazing typical Jamaican breakfast of ackee and saltfish, johnny cakes (I think they're called!), boiled banana, which was new to us and callaloo. The room itself was gorgeous, and decorated to hotel standards. Lorna was a very gracious and welcoming host and we shared a rum punch on the balcony after our dinner. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks for having us!

Why they chose this property

The hills are were to live in Jamaica, they are cool, all year round, with amazing views. The apartment has views over Kingston and the hills, completely mosquito netted - it is truly wonderful not to be bitten. The hill is amazing, 15 minute drive to the centre of Kingston, yet you feel as if you are in the countryside. It is a very safe, upmarket, corporate area.

What makes this property unique

The view.
Much cooler than central Kingston.
Safe.
Private road.
Totally peaceful.
Fabulous house.
320 degree views.
Easy to get to where ever you want.
The sitting room is amazing as 3 of the sides open completely to let the views in.
Luxurious, comfortable with style.
And I am great fun too :)
