Perched 500ft(?) above the shimmering deep blue of the Med at one of the top five destinations in the world, you will need to pinch yourself. It’s amazing. Imerovigli is the town to be in too. Close enough to Fira to do things that need to be done and far enough away to get away from the madding crowd.
Okay, so you’re going. That’s settled. Some things to be aware of. This is Greek Island life. Go easy on the water use. Toilet paper does not go down the toilet. There is a can for that. Many people know this, but better you know now and have no surprises. Property manager respects your privacy. Do not expect to hear from her unless you contact her, then she is efficient and comes thru for you.
Besides archeological site and museum, everything we needed was within a few hundred steps of our very well maintained dwelling. They must give it a fresh coat of paint every spring. There is AC but we did not need it as the design of the stone and plaster suite kept us cool with the windows open. You are on one of the main footpaths along cliff face. You will see the world walk by between your suite and your deck. Every afternoon during the golden hour, we saw people/models and pro photographers come to the roof next to our deck to take spectacular photos in wedding and similar flowing gowns. The view is that amazing.
There was no partying near us that we heard. Mostly ppl come to sit by their pool, relax, eat sumptuous feasts at the nearby restaurants and live the sweet life. This suite has no pool. That would have been nice by it was not necessary. In my opinion this is not a place for very old or stroller age children. The walking just requires a certain level of ability. We did not walk out to Oia, which many people give a wide range of opinions about. We had everything we needed right where we were. We did walk into Fira but it seemed to be broken, chaotic madness compared to imerovigli. That is all.
Santorini is gorgeous
We landed at Santorini airport and Katarina, the agent of the host, arranged a pickup at the airport to take us to the Little Stones House in Imerovigli. The driver brought us to the taxi area and someone met us there to show us to our place. When we turned the corner and saw the view from where we would be staying, our jaws dropped. It is incredible. We arrived at the place which was very clean, had good wifi, a small, practical kitchen and bathroom and a king sized bed with a very firm mattress. The two main problems with the place is 1) the beautiful terrace overlooking the caldera is not attached to the apartment. It is across a major walking corridor from the apartment and we felt like we were on display. We could not keep the door open to the view because people could look directly into the apartment and the bedroom. Also, 2) because the terrace is not attached, it was constantly being used by passersby although there was a small rope barrier and a sign that said "Private." It was not my place to go out and tell people that this was a private terrace, so it was rarely ours to enjoy by ourselves. Because the view from the terrace is so spectacular, so many tourists climbed over the rope to take pictures. So that's definitely a compromise.
I told Katarina that we were uncomfortable there and she arranged a different place for us in Oia. I think it was called the White Cave House. She warned us that there were a lot of steps (she said 40-50 max - I counted 99), but that it would be private. And it was private with specacular views, a similar kitchen, a better bathroom if you don't mind holding a hand held shower, and a more comfortable bed. One side of the bed is right next to a wall, so if you need to get out in the middle of the night, you have to crawl out so you don't disturb your partner.
It would be nice if there were another towel hook in the bathroom (there is 1) and perhaps something to put toiletries on in the bathroom. It was very clean.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and got lots of exercise climbing the 99 steps a few times a day. Katarina is lovely and extremely responsive and helped us with tips about the island.
The best view ! The best patio ! Worth it !
Great location, and beautiful view ! The bathroom needs a renovation and is accessible from one of the bedrooms which could be a problem. But all in all a great choice for Santorini.
