Why Craig Altmann chose Mongaup Valley
The Hudson Valley and foothills of the Catskills offer a wide variety of outdoor adventures, scenic vistas and culinary experiences. "Lake it" is situated just minutes from the world renowned Bethel Woods concert venue, Monticello Raceway, mind body and spirit massage and yoga retreat center (ask about in home treatments) and has assembled a variety of activities within the confines of the property. Lake it is only a 90 min drive from NYC and an hours drive from Stewart International Airport, allowing you to be in another world with an easier pace and in a natural and relaxed setting in a matter of minutes..
What makes this House unique
Our house offers such a wide a variety of recreational experiences one could simply stay within the limits of the house, yard and lake to find the adventure of a lifetime. For those who care for motorized lake sports the far end of the lake abounds, for a quieter and slower pace one can enjoy the nearby dead end of the lake for a day of fishing and relaxing. There is also much to be seen in and around the region and always something to be left for the return trip to our lakefront paradise. Hudson river walkway, Mohonk Mountain Preserve, Minnewaska hiking trails and many other historic places are within an hours drive.

Very easy check in and out. All the amenities were there like a greasy tv, grill, game room and 4 bathrooms! Lots of water fun like kayaks, paddle board, row boat and noodles in the shed. Plenty of room in the house and outside to spread out.
Hi Samantha and thank you for staying with us we’re glad you had a great time. Just to clarify I’m assuming you’re using talk to text and greasy TV means big screen TV :-)
Our family has used VRBO for years - and we have learned to base our choices on 5-star ratings. That is why we chose this cottage (not villa). Craig is good to deal with - and the lake is nice. However, one of our biggest pet peeves on vacation is cleanliness...usually our first impression of the property. Unfortunately, we were not happy with this when we arrived. There were old coffee grounds and mold in the coffee maker, the exhaust fans were clogged, the bathroom floors were dirty, and the hot tub needed a scrub. Craig is nice to work with. He let me know his usual cleaner was not available - and he had a neighbor stop by to clean the hot tub. The other issue we had was a lack of supplies that we have come to expect at a "not inexpensive" 5-star listing. There were a couple used rolls of toilet paper and a half roll of paper towels. We have never had to stock up on paper supplies before. Also, there were many missing basics such as laundry detergent (the neighbor got us some), tinfoil, zip lock bags, a spatula, etc. We bought some supplies and left them for the next renters. There were new plastic glasses in the cabinets which were nice; unfortunately, they all had two labels on each of them so we had to peel them off and run a load in the dishwasher before we could use them. Also, many of the light fixtures seemed old...Craig forewarned us about the one in the kitchen...but it felt like things had been a bit "let-go" in this regard. Finally, there is a well on the property - and on occasion the whole water system tends to shake, rattle and roll when the water is used. Again, Craig was responsive and is discounting our $150 cleaning fee - a little less than we had anticipated based upon all of our disappointments...but I really can't complain about Craig. As for our week at the lake - the water is clean, and the weather was great...so we enjoyed swimming. Once clean, the hot tub was a joy. The gas grill worked well...as did the stove. There is no ice maker...so make sure you buy some. The Shop-Rite is about 15 minutes away and always a bit crowded. The beds were comfortable, the dock and deck were very nice (as pictured); although the dock could definitely use a scrub down. As for local activities, it's basically the cute little town of Bethel and the original site of Woodstock (awesome) and the casino in Monticello. Otherwise a tad run down with not much to do. Despite it all, our family did stay for 6 days and we made the most of it...
No excuses and I would hope anyone reading this would consider it in it’s context since I rarely if ever have complaints about cleanliness and go to great lengths using a detailed checklist and personal oversight with my regular cleaner.
I got jammed up with my cleaner going away at last minute and I was also away so needed to substitute a young inexperienced neighbor . i did my best to respond and she was there several times trying to make right by him .
Matt didn’t mention he couldn’t afford the trip so I allowed him to pay installments right up to his arrival or that he asked and I gave him a 5 hour early arrival .
Checks and balances have been implemented to see this is a one time occurrence and my apologies to Matt and his family.
We enjoyed the house and the location.
A Relaxing Stay
We stayed at the lake house for 4 days. 3 families with 7 children ranging in age from 4 to 10. It was perfect. There was more than enough room for everyone and no one got in anyone's way. The game room was perfect for the kids as it was raining the first day we got there. Once the weather cleared up we all spent most of the time outside. The owners have provided many forms of entertainment between the boat, paddle boards, even Can Jam. The kids spent most of their time fishing (albeit unsuccessfully) off of the dock while us parents sat on the deck enjoying the day.
The check in process could not have been easier and the owner sent detailed instructions for just about everything. Any issues or questions we did need to reach out about, we were responded to within an hours time.
This house provided us with exactly what we were looking for - a nice fun relaxing weekend with good friends.
Thanks so much for the kind words it was a pleasure having you all and we appreciated all of your great communication and the care you took in cleaning up.
We enjoyed our stay.
Happy to have you Janet and think Your final message to me summed it up...”Thank you Craig for sharing your slice of heaven with us. I'm sure you found everything cleaned and in order upon our check out. Everyone has a great time. Janet

Gorgeous and roomy lake house
My group of five adults and one child had a great time at this larger-than-expected lake house with a spectacular view. The living space and bedrooms were large and we loved the many bathrooms. A dream from start to finish!
Thanks Jamuna, so nice having you with us and could hardly tell you were even there when you left😊
Thanks for taking such good care and happy travels!!
