About this property

Fancy Pony Land House

We took this old adobe house down to the mud bricks and remodeled it by hand with mostly reclaimed materials into a super cute warm contemporary cottage. It's an 850 sqr ft one bedroom with hardwood floors throughout. There is a woodstove in the front room and a custom-built 12'x4' daybed that can sleep two in a pinch. Great for lounging side by side in front of the fire. A bathroom floor tiled in pennies, handmade cushions, unique textiles and original art give the house a special Marfa style charm. There is one bathroom with a tub & shower, gas heat, a swamp cooler, full kitchen, big closet, covered back porch and a big fenced back yard with a fire pit. The house is just a block south of the Thunderbird Hotel and Capri bar and restaurant, close to everything in town (everything is close to everything).
This house is great for a single person, couple or a close family You can squeeze in a couple more if you're all good friends and don't mind a slumber party. The house is only 850 square feet and has no door on the one bedroom.
There is 18mbps wifi, which is fast enough to do regular browsing and streaming but may not be adequate for all work from home needs. It's a small town in a rural area and, believe it or not, this is the fastest internet AT&T offers in town!
Nice neighbors, safe, quiet neighborhood (except for passing trains and peacocks) .
I've provided a list of restaurants, stores and art museums with hours and contact info.

Sorry, no actual pony available.

Super cute Marfa casita
We had a lovely stay at this art-filled home. Our dogs loved the back yard and we enjoyed napping on the hammock. The location is close to all the places that make Marfa special.

I am a clothing, jewelry & interiors designer and until 2012 had a store in Marfa called Fancy Pony Land. The store featured my clothing, jewelry and artwork as well as work by artist friends from Marfa and around the country and was featured in Vogue as one of their 20 favorite stores in 20 cities in 2011. The house reflects this artist-made sensibility.
We now live in a cabin on Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park in Washington. I work out of a studio in the tiny town of Joyce on the Strait of Juan De Fuca.
We lived in Marfa for 5 years and were super sad to leave the coolest small town in America and some of the world's best people. We come back whenever we can but when we're not there you can enjoy Marfa and the house for us.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Marfa after living in the tiny village of Redford (SE of Marfa on the Rio Grande) for 5 winters. It was really the people of Marfa and the good friends we made there that made us want to buy a house. This house was a good cute fixer-upper project for us. Just when we got it fixed up perfectly, we moved!

What makes this property unique

Marfa is a truly unique town that combines the sophistication and culture of a big city with the sweetness, friendliness and safety of a small town. People look out for one another and there is always something interesting going on. It is a town full of artists, characters and Texas tall tales.
