About Dr. Sherilene M. Chycoski
While receiving my Doctorate in Educational leadership from the University of Southern California (Fight on Trojans!!) and working as a visual and performing arts administrator in the local school district, my husband and I purchased our home in Sacramento. We have been living at the house over the past several years while I work on contracts with the arts and school programs. My husband who was retired and an internationally known trumpet player enjoyed the local shops and restaurants while I was working working at the local schools with students and teachers. Our home in Sacramento has since assisted me with raising our three children and our new addition. At this time, we are currently working on contracts outside of the country and we have decided to list our second 'home away from home' on this website.
Dr. Sherilene M. Chycoski purchased this House in 2004
Why Dr. Sherilene M. Chycoski chose Central Sacramento
We purchased this property as it has a fantastic central location which is close to all our activities which include the Community Center Theatre, Wells Fargo Pavillion, Capitol Building, Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, Crocker Art Museum, Cal State Fair and Cal Expo as well as restaurants, shopping and great places for working in the fabulous 40s.
What makes this House unique
The large backyard with the double lot is what made us fall in love with this property. Who would of thought that you could find over 20 fruit trees in the middle of the city. While our guests and friends stay, we ask them to check and make sure that the sprinklers are working as the summers can get pretty hot in the capitol region.
No refunds for cancellations made after payment is made
Great walkable location
This home is in a cozy little neighborhood and lies within 100 yards of Trader Joe’s, an artisan coffee shop, a gastro pub, a brew pub and a CVS. Being able to walk to get everything we needed made this home extra nice. We were in town for a national track meet at Sacramento State so were never around during the day. But in the evening the home was large enough and roomy enough for all 6 of us. The only thing I would add is that this is not your picture perfect 4 star hotel BnB. It is a used and lived in home with all the charm that comes with it. If you want white glove treatment this is not it. But, if you are easy going and the bohemian in you wants a pedestrian vacation, this is your house.
This property was very functional for us we had 5 adults and 2 toddlers. 6 bedrooms some small as the original bedrooms had been divided to make up 6 bedrooms, but it worked. The back yard was good for the children with playground equipment and room to run. The backyard does need some landscape care lots of downed leaves and branches. We did sweep / clear the patio, sandbox, and walkway. We found brooms but no leaf rake that had a handle. Property felt somewhat like a work in progress. Lots of Fresh paint with a small piece of painters tape still up, not a problem. Property could use continued tlc. Several burnt out light bulbs no identical replacements. A couple of switch plates were missing. Needs some minor repair and cleanup. The kitchen could use a remodel, cabinets, tile. The ladies felt the kitchen ware needed to be run through the dishwasher so they did before we used it. The main bathroom could use more light, hard to see to put makeup on or shave. This may sound like nit picking but some of the little things mater.
Great Sacramento Fab 40's location
It is a nice large family house that can sleep many people. A very comfortable family home with a large backyard. The property was as described. A few things, I did have to request that a microwave was on promises, and the TV was not working the day we arrived but it was quickly taken care of. Also, it would be helpful to let guests know that street parking is limited to 2 hours unless you have a permit & it would be nice to have a full length mirror somewhere in the house for people that may be getting ready for special events. On final note, the owner requested we make the final payment 2 week earlier than stated in the reservation. She stated it was due to the credit card company taking too long to process the payment.
Over all it is a very nice place & a good location with amenities close by.
Old quiet neighborhood
The owner was so nice to work with. She gave us lots of information and was accessible. She allowed early check-in and late check-out for a couple of our girls because their planes were late, and since it was a Sunday and no immediate check-in. The property is convenient to several restaurants and grocery store. We enjoyed the walk. Also it was close to the convention center which was important for us.
This house should not be rented to guests
This home should not be offered as a home to rent to guests. The day before our arrival we were informed that there was construction taking place next door, so we were awakened at 6:45 a.m. We needed to enter by the side door because the front door lock was not working. The back bedroom has a very dangerous , not up to code, two steps down to the room to a very uncomfortable bed with smelly pillows. The french doors were very difficult to lock. The linens on a few of the beds were marked with pen and worn. The towels were old and mismatched. The potholders were dirty. Plyers were needed to turn on/off the fan above the gas stove that needed matches to light. There are notes throughout the house explaining the things that needed to be done to make things work. The kitchen drawers were disorganized, dirty , some off the runners with handles not completely attached. We bought ice to put in the freezer only to discover a wet floor in the morning because the freezer was not working. It is one thing if a person chooses to live this way but we did not expect to pay good money to stay in a place that has the problems mentioned plus more.
I spoke with the landlady about these issues after the first night. She was not responsive to our concerns stating that we were "staying in her home." She apparently does not feel the need to make things nice for paying guests. When asked what I wanted her to do about my complaints I said I wanted part of our payment refunded, to which she said no. She went on to offer us a discount if we wanted to stay there again. She clearly missed the point ! We would never want to stay there again, nor should anyone be encouraged to rent from her until she cleans the place up. DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE if cleanliness, working locks and working appliances are important to you.
Stayed with my 3 grandchildren, son, daughter in law, mother in law, and husband. Has ton of space to move about. Extremely kid friendly. Good neighborhood close to shopping. Had issues with freezer but owner helpful. Overall wonderful experience
