Summary:
Sea Glass is the open-plan, two-floor carriage house at the Bursley Manor, a 1670 farmhouse set on an acre of grounds in lovely West Barnstable. Downstairs are a sofa bed, wood stove, pub table, kitchen, and bath. Upstairs are a full bed, TV lounge, sofa bed & balcony. Sea Glass and the Captain's Quarters wing of the Manor share a furnished patio. Beyond it are the hot tub, sauna & cold plunge. Central West Barnstable is close to every adventure Cape Cod offers and less than two miles from pristine Sandy Neck Beach!
Full Description:
Sea Glass was the original carriage house at the Bursley Manor, the homestead John Bursley built in 1670 for his Maple Spring Dairy. Today, this charming tiny home is the perfect place for small families, couples, honeymooners, and anyone who likes privacy.
The Manor is set on an acre of lush grounds on historic Route 6A, the Old King's Highway. Sea Glass was added in the 1800s and has now been converted into a delightful cottage on two floors.
The first floor, accessed by sliding glass doors that open onto the patio, offers a double pull-out sofa in front of the wood stove from 1857. A desk is tucked away by one of the windows, in front of an antique wooden spiral staircase salvaged from a local church.
Behind the staircase is a pub table for four in a dining nook and the kitchen, complete with a full-sized fridge and sink, and an apartment-sized stove and dishwasher. The bathroom with its shower is beyond the kitchen.
At the top of the stairs is a sleeping nook with a double bed. That opens onto a television lounge with a coffee table, a wingback chair, and another double pull-out sofa. The lounge leads onto the balcony, furnished for evening cocktails for two.
Sea Glass shares the east patio with the Captain's Quarters if the two units are booked simultaneously by different parties. Sea Glass and the Captain's Quarters are about 30 feet apart, with the patio between them offering ample dining furniture, two gas grills and two charcoal grills, a chiminea, a fire pit, and a pub table with a built-in fire pit.
Behind Sea Glass is an expanse of lawn that kids often use for horseshoes, frisbee, croquet, badminton, and soccer, and there are chairs and tables scattered around the lawn for relaxing in private. The lawn slopes down to a small pond and marsh, rich with bird-watching opportunities. Across Route 6A at the front of the property is the original cow pond to the dairy, now part of a separate horse farm.
The spa area is at the end of the east patio. It was added in 2024 and shared by all guests at the Bursley Manor. It offers a hot tub for seven, a far-infrared sauna for four, and a cold plunge for individual use, as well as indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.
The Manor consists of three units that can be booked separately or in combination - Sea Glass, the Captain's Quarters, and the Farmhouse. The Farmhouse has its own private patio. None of the units share any interior space.
The Bursley Manor's West Barnstable location offers a perfect jumping-off point to all of Cape Cod's many attractions. Drive to the east for 15 minutes and you're on lively and bustling Main Street in downtown Hyannis. Quaint and charming Sandwich is 15 minutes west.
Relax after a day at gorgeous Sandy Neck Beach. Host lobster feasts and barbecues on your patio. Take a whale tour out of Barnstable Harbor or drive up to Provincetown for the day. Whatever your group likes to do, Sea Glass is your perfect mid-Cape hub!Located in Barnstable, this superb cottage offers 5 bedrooms with 1 full bed each. With 6 bathrooms equipped with showers and hair dryers, guests will feel right at home. The additional living spaces with futon beds provide extra comfort for larger groups.
