About this property

Historic Gonzales, One Hour to Austin and San Antonio

Lovely country getaway on 700 acres , centrally located in historic Gonzales County, easy one hour access to major cities (Austin, San Antonio and surrounding area). Large yard to relax and enjoy the country. Nearby historic sites, Painted Churches, TX barbeque, Shiner brewery (yes that's Shiner Beer!), shopping and dining and the 8 miles to the JW Wells competition arena in Gonzales.
Three bedrooms, two baths in main house, bed and bath in guest house (additional cost for use of guest house). One acre lot with lots of room to roam , or park a trailer if your here for competitions at the arena.

Near by ( 8 miles) Gonzales holds a unique place in Texas history as the site of the firing of the first shot for Texas independence. October 2, 1835 eighteen townsmen stood on the bank of the Guadalupe River and refused to give up their small cannon to the Mexican Army. A flag was fashioned showing a black replica of the cannon on a white background with words that would echo through the years, "Come and Take it."

Gonzales further carved out its niche in history when 32 men answered the call for help from the Alamo. The immortal 32 were the only reinforcements who made it to the Alamo in time to fight and die along side many other heroes. After the fall of the Alamo, during the Runaway Scrape, General Sam Houston ordered the town of Gonzales burned. Later soldiers and townspeople returned to Gonzales to rebuild their town.

The 49 original blocks and seven public squares laid out in the shape of a Greek cross withstood the test of time and form the first Texas History Museum District. Within the district are museums, historic homes, historic monuments and a thriving downtown made up of buildings built before and around 1900. Download the GPS based Tour Gonzales smart phone app that will guide you through a tour of seven museums, 30 historic homes, downtown, parks and recreation. The app also provides information about hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts. Before the Alamo, before Davy Crockett the "Come and Take It" challenge was issued. The "Come and Take It" spirit lives on in Gonzales today. Come and take a tour. See the museums, historic homes and the history. A self-guided driving tour points out the older homes and buildings and the names of the cattle barons, lawyers and bankers who built them after the Civil War. There are also three different walking tours designed to showcase the historic homes and buildings.

Eight miles to the J. B. Wells Park, a 169-acre park with a covered pavilion, multi-purpose show barn, covered arena, practice arena, a hike and bike trail . JB Wells Park hosts many events throughout the year; bull riding, cutting horse events, team ropings, barrel races, 4-H play days, junior high and high school rodeos, stock shows, cattle sales, tractor pulls, concerts and much more.

Nice country place
Cute old farm house that has been added onto. It is out in the country, but several towns within driving distance to go see and do.

Amazing - highly recommend
We were enchanted as we drove onto the property! The house and surrounding acreage was well maintained and the inside of the house was super clean, smelled amazing and had everything we needed. Shirley was easy to connect with and very informative. Definite go to for chilling out and enjoying amazing sunsets and sunrises. All that and only about an hour out of Austin or San Antonio.

Perfect!
We were in town for my son’s wedding. We had family coming from out of state and out of town. This was the perfect place for us to visit, relax and entertain our family. There was more than enough room inside and out. I would highly recommend this place.

Wonderful
We were in Gonzales for a week. Our grandson was in the jr high rodeo. For me this place was so awesome. It has been in the owners family for generations and well taken care of. It is extremely clean and has a beautiful yard. It’s like going to grandmas house. So comfy.
