Map
Lake Gaston is truly one of the most outstanding lakes in the country. It's great for swimming, boating, fishing, jet skiing, wake boarding, water skiing and much more. It is approximately 34 miles long (and Heron House is almost in the middle at mile marker 14), a mile and a half at the widest part, and has over 350 miles of shoreline and over 20,000 surface acres of clear water. One of the greatest features of the lake is that because it is used for generating power, it must be kept within 1 foot of it's normal level by regulation. Due to this, even when the surrounding lakes are low, Lake Gaston is at or very near it's normal levels. Lake Gaston is conveniently located on the border between North Carolina and Virginia (in fact, you can see the Virginia border buoy at the mouth of Poplar Creek across from Heron House) between routes I-85 on the North West and I-95 on the East. Lake Gaston and Heron House are an easy 1.5 hour drive from Richmond, Virginia and about the same from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Heron House is just a 20 minute boat or car ride from Eaton's Ferry (Morningstar) Marina, WatersView Restaurant, and the local grocery stores and other restaurants. Eaton's Ferry is a great resource for local information, watercraft rentals and service, and a quick stop for marine gas and food. While there, be sure to buy some fish food and take some time to feed the wild catfish, carp, and fowl that make Eaton's Ferry their home. WatersView Restaurant is the local go-to place for great food and views of the lake. (Hint: Sunday Brunch is delicious!) With great views and fine, yet casual dining, both Eaton's Ferry and WatersView Restaurants are good local treasures to experience. In addition, there's also the Rosemont Winery which is located about 10 minutes away where you can have a wine tasting and enjoy a nice lunch. Visit or call (434)636-9463. Visit www.lakedirectory.net, to learn more about Lake Gaston including more places to eat as well as additional activities, etc.

Ask a questionAbout Marianne
We are a family of 4 who cherish our times at Lake Gaston. Something about being on the water all day really bonds the family, and creates lasting memories. To us, grilling and watching the sun set at the end of a lake day is a treasured family tradition. We purchased the land in 2000 and built the house in 2004, but didn't finish the lower level until 2014. We have loved sharing the lake house with others, and receiving pictures of fish they've caught, sunsets they have been witness to and treasured family gatherings.
Why Marianne chose Macon
We chose Lake Gaston because lake life has always been important in our family through the generations. Our hope is that you will feel relaxed, rejuvenated and invigorated as you enjoy yourself in a luxurious setting with unforgettable views, in the hopes that you can create your own lasting memories. We place ourselves in your shoes in order to serve our Guests in the best and most comfortable way.
What makes this house unique
Heron House features an intimate space for smaller friend/family gatherings, and allows guests to have the "main lake" experience, without the McMansion main lake pricing, while maintaining a luxurious, fun-filled, and relaxing atmosphere. This allows for more meaningful time to spend with your friends and family, and of course allows Heron House to be an affordable vacation destination. The lake is so close that sitting on the patio feels as though you're at the water's edge. Getting to and from the entrance to the home is without steps and the rental is a single level. From the home to the boathouse features minimal stairs for ease of access. The main living area of the floor plan is open and bright.
