Anne & Greg Edmistone
About Anne & Greg Edmistone
My husband Greg and I bought Lyrebird Ridge when our two children became teenagers. We moved to the Shoalhaven in 1990 when Greg was posted to the Navy base, HMAS Albatross.I have worked in the area as a primary school teacher for many years but recently took a break from teaching so I could enjoy working on projects around the farm and vineyard.
Anne & Greg Edmistone purchased this Studio in 2005
Why Anne & Greg Edmistone chose Budgong
From the first time we came to this property we felt at home. We loved the feeling of isolation, even though it is so close to Kangaroo Valley and Nowra and we were attracted by the simplicity and self- sufficiency of the place - tank water, solar power, vineyard, chickens. We were happy to be challenged by a change in lifestyle for both us and the children.
What makes this Studio unique
Sharing our place with guests is wonderful because there are so many interesting things to see and do. There is always various wildlife coming and going, things to learn, to make and grow and jobs to tackle. I love having people join in if they want but if you just want to kick back and relax then I will just point you in the direction of the hammock and leave you to it. We hope when people stay with us they feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable. We also hope that the ability to step away from phones, TV, internet or just the radio for a few days helps them to reconnect with nature and with each other. What we first loved about the place is what we always keep in mind ' Keep it simple'.

Fantastic little getaway
Wonderful long weekend away in a lovely cabin, with fantastic hosts. Loved the peace and quiet, the great facilities and the chance to chat with the hosts. Our little puppy had a fantastic holiday, meeting the sheep and playing with other dogs. Will definitely be back.
Thanks so much for writing a review of your 3 day stay at our property. You had the best Easter weather so it made it very easy to enjoy the property and the wonderful areas around the Shoalhaven. Your puppy got a good introduction to farm life and it was great to watch our Golden Retriever try to entice her into the dam for a swim maybe your next stay she will put more than her toes in.
Lovely space with nice touches of homemade jam and butter, dvds and books. However I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation in hot weather - no air conditioner is understandable for an off the grid property but when the power goes out on a hot night (no fan, fridge, shower, lights) in a brick building, it makes for a very uncomfortable night. The fact that there was no forewarning or checking in afterwards by the hosts made it even worse.
Thanks for writing a review and letting us know how upset you were by the power going off during one of the nights of your stay. With the current heatwave we are experiencing, not just in our area, but all over NSW it has been a challenging summer so far.I am usually very mindful of chatting with guests and ensuring their stay is an enjoyable and comfortable one so it is disappointing that this was not your experience.
The power to the accommodation was tripped for no apparent reason, just one of those things and my sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We have recently upgraded our solar power and will look into a device that will allow us and guests to restore power should a similar situation arise. As we live on the property ,close by to the accommodation, we are always available for guests to ask for assistance at any time during their stay.
The Shoalhaven is a fantastic place to visit in both Summer and Winter and I hope you were able to enjoy your stay regardless of the heat.
Thankyou you again for your comments as it really does help us to ensure we address any problems and continue to provide a positive experience for our guests.
Delightful stay at this gorgeous little property!
Will certainly be back!
Thanks so much for your review of our property. We hope when you stay next time you can have a few more days to explore the place a little more. There are plenty of bushwalks nearby, so much wildlife and Jervis Bay is an easy drive too.Of course having the opportunity to get away from technology is a huge plus if you want to laze around in a hammock here.
We will look forward to seeing you sometime soon I hope.
Escape From The City
Sometimes you need to get away from the normal everyday routine that is our lives, to take the opportunity to slow down, relax and leave technology behind.
Lyrebird is the perfect place to do this and with the added bonus that I could bring my 4 legged best friend.
With the close proximity of Kangaroo Valley, Berry, Kiama and Shoalhaven Heads there is a variety of options to choose from depending on whether you like to browse in quaint gift shops, eat beautiful meals, swim in clear refreshing rivers or hit the beach. Or of course, you can stay and relax and enjoy the bush, exploring around the property.
Anne is a gracious host and made me feel very welcome and has fabulous knowledge of the area if you need any suggestions as to how to while away your time.
And at the end of the day, what better way to relax than to share some time with other guests that may be staying in the one other cottage over a barbecue dinner.
Lyrebird is the perfect place to get away from the mundane, to recharge and prepare yourself to tackle the real world for another round.
Thank you Anne, for providing a beautiful escape.
It sounds as though our quiet little place was just what you needed and we are so happy you chose to stay with us. You are right, we are close enough to so many beautiful places to explore during your stay but feel isolated enough to escape as well.
We hope to see you and your 4 legged best friend again soon.
A very sweet bed and breakfast! Loved it here.
Thanks for having us! We loved staying here. Everything from the organic wine, the dogs, the blue eggs & home made jam was lovely. We have already told all our friends to visit!
Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us just before Christmas. It is a pretty busy time on the property in December however we always find time to taste the wine in the cellar with our guests. The chickens are laying well and we are always surprised by the range of colours we collect each day. The blue are my favourite too.
Thanks for telling your friends about us and we hope to see you again sometime soon.
Lovely peaceful retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at Lyrebird Ridge Organic Winery & Retreat. Our hosts, Anne and Greg, couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our accommodation was perfect - all was immaculate and had everything we needed. It's a very peaceful setting with plenty of birdlife. We didn't miss wi-fi or television one bit, (in fact it was good to get away from it) and would most certainly recommend a stay here to family and friends. Mike & Carol Morphett
Although you had a very short stay with us we are so glad you still felt you had ample opportunity to explore the property and do some birdwatching. The rain we had this week has brought the birds out even more. They are very happy and the surrounding bush is a chorus of birdsong today. I need to get our bird books out to identify them better.
We appreciate you recommending us to your family and friends and hope to see you again sometime in the future.
