About this property

OCEAN VIEWS in a Quiet Community near Marbella, San Juanillo, and Ostional

Best of both worlds - lower level unit, but still has ocean views. Great base camp location between Tamarindo and Nosara. Spacious, clean and beautiful condo with two master suites. Each bedroom features a king size bed and French doors leading to large covered patio with ocean views. One bedroom also has private patio off to the side. Open floor plan has large living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar and bar stools. Modern furnishings and comfortable beds make for a wonderful retreat. Condo is on the lower level for easy access but still has GREAT VIEWS (but still has a few stairs to access). Wi-Fi and cable TV are included. Sit on the patio with a nice breeze blowing through, watching the sunset or just listening to the nearby monkeys or birds or even listening to the waves nearby crashing on the beach! Take a 5 min walk down to the beautiful, unspoiled and quiet beach or drive to the next town - south or north (about 2-3 miles) to get food or groceries. Or just check out the many other unpopulated and unspoiled beaches nearby. Drive approx 7 miles south to the famous Ostional Beach where the Olive Ridley turtles come in by the hundreds to lay their eggs and then 45 days later watch the babies hatch and make their way to the ocean. This is what I was looking for when I came here. If you’re looking to be in a tourist area with modern conveniences and lots of people, this probably isn’t for you. But if you're looking for an out-of-the-way place where you can enjoy Costa Rica in an unspoiled area, this is it! There is a Property manager on site can help with all tours and attractions.

Upgrades in the last few years include new air conditioners in each bedroom and living room, new sliding glass door with screen in one bedroom, new bedding for both bedrooms, new bedframes and nightstands in each bedroom, adirondack chairs have newer cushions, refinished coffee table, and newer wall decor to give the place a nicer Costa Rican feel to it. There's also a bluetooth music speaker and a charging HUB to charge all your devices.

Please keep in mind that this condo is in a rural area with dirt/gravel roads and the roads can get very bumpy.

Not what we expected
We have travelled around Costa Rica a few times and this was the only place we weren’t given proper description of the property.Starting on the positive points the caretaker was nice and helpful.Thanx Carl! The beds linens and towels were very nice and comfortable beds. I will go by the negative points 1 driving up to the condo I thought we were in a Ukrainian war zone. Those cement blocks are not only visually awful but when it is windy(90 percent of the time) the loose metal roofing makes a horrible sound and fly off!!!! 2 the condo sits on the corner of 3 dirt roads that creates A lot of sand and dust!!!Put some molasses on like other dirt road properties,it would be a lot better. 3 A 3 minute walk to the beach??Let’s say 10 minutes after you go around the river and go thru the woods till the river stops.A good 15 minutes up a steep roasting get back. Not fun thing to do when it is 35 degrees out. 4 The interior of the condo has nice living room and bedrooms but the rest, especially the bathrooms need a complete overhaul. They we’re old, dirty old tub, dirty toilets and sinks. When I travel to places like C.R.I am not expecting luxury but cleanliness is essential and this place was not.A good cleaning crew would help a lot and completely new bathrooms and kitchen sink. We were very surprised at how we found the Condo. We are a very easy going couple and have travelled around a lot and this is the only time that I had to write a negative report on a stay.

Peaceful stay
We all enjoyed our stay in Playa Azul. Superb condo and property. Be aware it is in a remote location and the road in was quite bumpy. An S.U.V would be recommended. Overall, a great place to visit.

Well Deserved Get-Away
I was attracted to the property since it was described as off the beaten path and good for travelers who wanted peace and quiet. It most certainly met the criteria. It was very quiet and "tranquilo". Carl, the property manager was extremely helpful in getting us acclimated, and recommending places to go close by. He even gave us a drawn out map to those locations and what they had to offer. The property is very nice and well taken care of. There is a short walk to the beach which has beautiful sunsets. I would most certainly rent the condo again if back in Costa Rica.

Unit very clean and well stocked. Property and amenities well cared for. Manager was VERY helpful, about property and surrounding area. Property very remote, we went for peace, quiet and relaxation. Sanctuary filled the bill!

About the host

My husband and I live in Northern CA. We live in the mountains and enjoy the (mostly) relaxed, private life we have. We moved up here from the Bay Area about 15 years ago looking to get out of the rat race. We enjoy traveling when we get the chance - usually 2 trips a year (until we purchased this condo anyway). We both work full time as Realtors in our small community.

Why they chose this property

When I started researching Costa Rica, I was told about these condos through a Travel Plan that we have. I was immediately intrigued. I loved the fact that it's so close to nature and so close to the beach and was not a tourist trap. Tourist areas are fun but we prefer quiet. I even looked into buying here prior to our trip. My husband, however, was not convinced. Until he saw what it had to offer and the prices of the condos. Not only do we feel it will be a great investment, but we can't wait to go back each time and explore it no matter the time of year. The condos are really spacious and well appointed. We've had a little work done on the condo, but it was in pretty good shape, although we will continue to make improvements each time we go.

What makes this property unique

Off the beaten path (to me that is a benefit), quiet, somewhat secluded, there's a good chance that you'll be the only one at the pool, towns are close enough but not too close. Beach is a 5 minute walk. Nature is everywhere. It only takes a few minutes to find monkeys - you may find them on the property or you can take a 5 minute drive to the nearest river and most likely see them. Parrots fly over every morning. Photography opportunities everywhere.
