Wonderful stay in the hills overlooking Florence
We were a large party of 16 and stayed at this gorgeous property for 5 nights. There were spectacular views from every room, and the pool was amazing. Both Gaia and Mariolina were wonderful hosts. They were even able to arrange 3 chef prepared meals for us at the villa which were just delicious. The villa is a bit remote as it is nestled among olive groves and you really do need a car to get anywhere, but that is exactly what we were looking for. However, if you do not have a car the girls can arrange transportation for you with Alessandro, whom we also highly recommend. We were sad to be leaving and will definitely return!
Just didn't meet our needs
It was truly a Tuscany scene, but too far out from us, we didn't have a vehicle & air conditioner wasn't working in all the rooms, they were gracious and extremely friendly....
Christmas and New Year's in Florence!
Six of us had a wonderful experience for our first trip to Florence, much of it because of the hospitality of the Del Bianco family and this huge villa. We were there 26/12/15-02/01/16 and the villa and its proximity to Florence, Siena and other parts of Tuscany was perfect for us. We enjoyed fixing breakfast and supper in the villa -- we are all amateur cooks! -- and the kitchen was big, well stocked and great. An outdoor grill was a plus! Mariolina, Gaia and their parents helped us with their insights and love of the area. Yes, as Howard R. said in his review the travel to and from the villa was an experience, but a fun memory. His review about the villa is spot on. We did find that the shower on the lower floor was the best one to use. A pocket-sized WiFi hotspot was hit and miss, but worked ok. Yes, it was winter and cold and damp, but we knew that when we booked. We will return when it is warmer!
charming Villa with lovely views
What an amazing place this is - everything you could hope for and imagine an Italian villa in Tuscany would be!
Beautiful, comfortable, well appointed, spacious and totally charming.
A GPS for your car is an absolute MUST; it's a little hard to find your way up on top of a mountain and you have to travel from the town on very narrow (and scary) little rough roads to get there but once you do the views are breathtaking! The four large antique-filled bedrooms with four-poster, canopied beds and two bathrooms on the main floor were perfect for our party of 4 single adults and the villa easily accommodates larger groups with 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor and two twin bedrooms and a bathroom on the lower level. Spectacular marble and wood floors with colorful intricate area rugs, an incredible cooks' kitchen, stunning chandeliers and fixtures and certainly no shortage of places to nap, read, relax or just sit and plan the next days' activities. We never even used the huge gorgeous dining room because the outdoor dining space was so alluring.
The train station is only about 10 minutes away (with free parking!) and then it was a quick 11 minute train ride into Florence. You can also take the train to connect to most of the other towns all over Tuscany.
The house is a little rustic, could use some updating and the WiFi was spotty and intermittent but we were provided with a hot spot device that we took with us wherever we went which was terrific.
If you plan on using the pool be prepared for a bit of a hike; it's up a very steep hill about 200 yards from the villa - once you get up there it's lovely (with more fantastic views) but don't expect to lounge next to it with your morning coffee! Do that at the table on the magnificent terrace right off the living room where we also enjoyed a delicious, multiple-course meal prepared and served to us by a private chef our hosts arranged.
And our hosts, the Del Bianco sisters, could not have been more gracious and helpful. Gaia even drove two of us with our huge, over-loaded suitcases (which wouldn't all fit in our car…can’t resist all of the fun shopping :) to the airport and car rental return (which we never would have found on the poorly marked roads) when it was time to leave, which we reluctantly did after spending a simply wonderful week at this delightful old Tuscan country home.
I cannot say enough kind words about Gaia and Mariolina and their beautiful villa outside of Florence. The property is gorgeous - the house is wonderful. You will not find nicer people in all of Italy. Beautiful!
Beautiful Property with Great Owner Service
Our entire extended family (10 adults, 4 kids) just comfortably stayed in this beautiful Tuscan villa just outside of Florence for a week. The living room and dining room are plenty large for the entire group, in addition to the abundant outdoor seating areas, where we spent most of our time. The property is in excellent shape, very private, remained cool and has the best views that one could imagine. The private pool was great for the kids to play and for the adults to lie out, drink wine and enjoy the fantastic views of Florence. The scent of the lavender and rosemary bushes that surround the pool was nice as well.
The fantastically stunning and vivacious sisters,Gaia and Mariolina, who take care of the bookings and oversee the property were fantastic as well. As they lived in the house during childhood, they know all of the local places for formal and informal dining, coffee, pizza food stores, etc. Also, they are always available to come and assist with anything or help with recommendations of where to go and what to do in Florence and the greater Tuscan region.
When we return to Florence, which we likely will as it is the most beautiful city in the world with the most beautiful people in the world, we will absolutely stay here again!
p.s. The only nit is that the wireless was essentially useless and it was tough to get a good 3g signal with my iPhone. The wireless was through a local cell carrier puck which would often pick up an old analog signal only. Hopefully they can soon get proper internet. But hey, you're on vacation and shouldn't be doing work anyways!
