Why Michelle Fletcher chose Huon Valley
We wanted to share our little piece of paradise with the travellers of the world. It's calm and quiet, beautiful and scenic, the weather is always good, even when it's bad and we are close enough to all the attractions to be convenient and far enough away to be fabulous. Our guests have all commented on the comfort, the hospitality and the tranquility. Come and see for yourself.

A comfortable place in a beautiful environment
Birch Lane is a comfortable place from which to visit southeastern Tasmania. The apartment is clean, freshly painted, equipped with quality appliances, comfortable bedding and pretty much everything you could need on a holiday stay. The ceramic cooktop is touch-controlled and a bit tricky to operate until you get the hang of it. Michelle and Peter are friendly, warm, welcoming and helpful people. Whilst they live close to the apartment (in fact the apartment is an integral part of their own home), with separate entrances it is more than adequately private. Sapphire the cat, and dog Zoe, will indeed be there to welcome you but won't wear out their welcome. If any problem at all just text Michelle and she or Peter will be there in a flash. There is a very nice 2-car carport on a concrete floor right next to the apartment from which you can enjoy a stunning view across the truly beautiful Huon Valley. Everything shown in the photo presentation is pretty much as it is except it gives a somewhat misleading impression of spaciousness. Whilst the apartment will sleep five it does not provide living space for five since there is not much room to move once the (comfortable) sofa-bed is deployed. The dining table only seats four. Five people - or even four - would not want to be shut in there if the weather turned bad. The toilet has access from the main bedroom and the bathroom/laundry. Whilst not really a problem, the shower has only a single fixed glass transparent half-screen that isn't wide enough to prevent water from escaping to the floor. Summarising, Birch Lane is a charming and beautiful place to stay. Unless you're something of a rally driver Hobart is the better part of an hour's drive, but a nice drive. Huonville, a busy town with everything, is about 10 minutes. If you want to visit Bruny Island, Birch Lane is well on the way. As a family of four we greatly enjoyed our stay at Birch Lane and look forward to doing it again.
Thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive and positive review. It is helpful for future guests to see what we are doing well and what we are working on. As 2018 was our first year of operation we still have a couple of things we'd like to put in yet and fly screens are one of them. Interestingly, another family discussed that fly screens would be an advantage, but would also impede the views. So upon reflection, we have decided to put them only on the bedroom and bathroom windows as a trial. That particular family also swapped the configuration of the sofa-bed and the dining table for the duration of their stay and they reported it worked really well for their teenager. It really opens up what is essentially apartment living, and the private courtyard gives an extra outdoor private space as well.
I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay. Birch Lane is in a great position, as you rightly point out, from which to explore the Valley, Bruny Island and Hobart.
We would love to have you and your family come back and stay with us again someday.
Thanks again, Donald. I will take all your feedback on board.
Cheers, Michelle .
Beautiful spot room very clean and tidy would stay again
Thanks for your great review Christopher, it was good to meet you. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
"Birch Lane" is set in farmland, in a rural location, half way between the artisan market town of Cygnet (famous for the Cygnet Folk festival) and the bustling business hub of Huonville. It is the ideal place to base yourself for a few days and explore what Tasmania has to offer. The Huon Valley is famous for superb local produce, seafood and wine, cheese and seasonal fruit. And ''Birch Lane'' is right in the heart of the Huon Valley. We are 7 minutes drive in either direction to the nearest supermarket, banks, medical centres, pubs, petrol stations, real estate offices, libraries, cafes, restaurants, and children's playgrounds. "Birch Lane" is 40 minutes drive to Hobart city- famous Salamanca Market, major shops and business outlets, MONA, and seasonal festivals such as 'Taste of Tasmania'.
We are approximately 50-60 minutes, depending upon city traffic, from the Hobart International Airport, 1 hr 15 from historic Richmond Village - and not really that far from anywhere else in the whole of Tasmania. Many of our guests have commented that they wished they had booked with us for longer had they known.
