Garden Suite with views across beautiful landscaped gardens
About Heather Dean
We both had corporate jobs in Melbourne and decided do have a tree change, gave up our jobs in Interior design and my husband managing in IT. Our children were grown and moved out and it was time to find something we enjoyed and gave us a more simple lifestyle; We enjoy gardening and lavish attention on our just over an acre of landscaped gardens. We also enjoy good wine and food and boy did we pick the right town. Strathalbyn has welcomed us with open arms and we enjoy the community and friendship we have found, needless to stay we are happy with our choices and hope during your short time with us you will experience the beauty and friendliness that embodies this town.
Heather Dean purchased this House in 2016
Why Heather Dean chose Strathalbyn
We spent a long time looking for that special place to run our accommodation. It had to be close to a town, walking distance to places to eat, coffee shops and hopefully a nice pub. We wanted something that had an historic background or something special about it and finally it had to be in a place people would want to visit. The Gasworks ticked all our boxes and it was love at first site. We intend to leave it better than we found it as we consider ourselves more caretakers than owners as this piece of history belongs to the town as well as us.
What makes this House unique
Built in C1890 The Gasworks was created out of the local Bluestone and along with its lovingly restored cottages the walkways/walls around the garden are also of this beautiful stone, we love the curve of the roof and its high ceilings. Location on the banks of the pretty River Angas is also a beautiful bonus. The gardens abound with birds and beautiful blooms, we find it the perfect haven and hope you do too.

Great Winter Getaway
Heather was really accommodating for us, really enjoyed the stay. The cottages are very comfortable, great location too. Would come back again!
We are ideally located in the historic town of Strathalbyn, walking distance to our 4 pubs, The Victoria, Commercial, Robin Hood and The Terminus, there is also a cosy wine and Tapas bar called Smiths, an award winning restaurant The Olfactory, Ruffino's pizza and Italian restaurant and numerous coffee shops the most notable the Bean Machine in the centre of town overlooking the well kept Soldiers Memorial Gardens with its wonderful rose gardens and you'll get a warm welcome at the Appleseed on the High Street. We also have takeaway pizza shops, Chicken shop, Chinese and a Indian Curry takeaway all within easy walking distance.
Strathalbyn is noted for its Antique shops and you will find these on the High Street. Strathalbyn is also perfectly located for sightseeing, with five exits out of town each leading to the various wineries at Langhorne Creek or Currency Creek, the beaches, forests and of course Mount Barker just 20 mins away and Hanhdorf 5 mins further on and of course Adelaide City approx 45 mins from Strathalbyn via Mount Barker and the M1.
Most of all we pride ourselves on our beautiful gardens and warm welcome. Come and see for yourselves.
