My grandparents owned a cabin in the Walker, Minnesota area. I have wonderful memories of visiting them at the cabin. My dream is to someday be able to offer my own grandchildren a getaway to grandma's Up North. My children are long-time villagers at the Waldsee German Camp located on this lake. I am a German teacher in the Twin Cities and I have lots of time in the summer to own a cabin. I rent it out to help "make ends meet." I dream that someday I'll have repeat guests whom I trust that come year after year and make it their special place too.

Why they chose this property

The main room is the dining hall of an old logging camp, built in 1935. As we have been renovating we found so many wonderful clues to its past. The third bedroom used to be a kitchen with a serve-through window to the main hall. We found the cook's doggy door. The old door in the master bedroom used to open onto a long screen porch where the lumberjacks probably hung their gear..

You can still find the old stone steps down to the cement landing for the logging boats. This cabin has a lot of history and character, yet the updated kitchen makes it so much better than "roughing it." You can find old white pine logs in the lake abandoned on the bottom of the lake. The dining room (now living room) floor was handmade out of white pine. Old cedar trees, which are very rare in the area still stand on the property. I have a small liquor and medicine bottle collection in the kitchen that I found in the garden.

What makes this property unique

Neighbors are super- dog friendly. The neighboring housing association has very lenient rules regarding dogs. You'll often find other family's dogs off leash and stopping by for a play-date.

Because of the Turtle River's constant flow through the lake, it stays very clean year round. There is a healthy population of loons, bald eagles, pelicans and trumpeter swans on the lake.
