Why j david mason chose Algonquin Highlands
Has been used for friends and family since inception. Now a rental property as we built a 6000 sq ft home on mainland 5 minutes by boat nearby. It is the only island on this lake that has accommodation. We live here 70% of the time. It is a lifelong dream to be able to have home close to all the wonderful surroundings of both Muskoka as well as Algonquin Park.
What makes this Cottage unique
Hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails nearby, beautiful beaches, excellent fishing and water sports. Our island has two swimming areas. One is right adjacent to the cabin and the other is for deep diving off a second dock on the east shore of our island. There are two paddle boats, a canoe, and a 14 foot aluminum boat with 6 HP motor. All this equipment is included. Wifi hotspot internet is available, plus Bell express vue satellite TV service.

A very unique place in beautiful area
Where else can't rent an entire island to your self? This place is very well kept and has pretty much anything you need to stay. Just beware the total relaxation ... we had many plans of hiking, fishing, swimming, etc ... all that fell by the wayside in favor of relaxing on the island with a nice fire and books. We didn't bring kids this time, but would good for school age kids.
Relaxing Muskoka Retreat
I stayed at this cosy cottage with my husband and 2 children and we really enjoyed how peaceful and relaxing it is. One morning I woke up early and went outside to see the morning mist on the lake which was spectacular. The sunsets were stunning as well. My son enjoyed the motor boat and found the fishing excellent. On sunny days we could sit outside and read or catch some rays on the dock. We enjoyed canoeing and paddleboating. If you are looking for a little adventure, Algonquin Park is close by and just a short paddle over to the owner's home where we parked our cars. The owner's were very friendly and if we had any questions they were more than happy to help. They offered to take us on a boat ride and show us around the lake. We were able to relax and unwind on this peaceful island. If you are looking for rest and relaxation this island is a beautiful retreat with lots of natural beauty.
Bonnie, Andrew and family were excellent guests! They were most understanding when we experienced problems with one appliance, and left our cottage clean and orderly. The boats and all equipment were treated respectfully. We believe they enjoyed the wilderness experience and are most welcome to return anytime. David and Myrna
Excellent and Totally Relaxing
Can you imagine a little island paradise all to yourself? Well, at Gents' island, your imagination becomes reality. This place is the perfect, quiet, 'away from it all' hideout where you can get back to nature, swim, fish off the pier, boat/canoe around the lake, enjoy a campfire, or just chill on the large deck while you savour the tranquil views and the gorgeous sunsets that melt into the horizon.
The cottage is so comfortable and well-equipped that you can be completely self-sufficient (depending how many groceries you ferry over with you, of course). You should stay for at least a week. You feel like you're in your own little world, even though it's only a 15-minute paddle to the General Store on the 'mainland' if you run out of something.
The hosts/owners (David and Myrna) are very available and very eager to help in any way ... or they're equally happy to leave you alone if you just want private time on the island. They live in a house on the lakeshore, also just a 15-minute paddle away.
The location of Gents' Island is ideal for exploring Algonquin Park. And you're only 20 minutes from Huntsville if you fancy a night on the town. But why would you want that when you have this little island paradise all to yourself?
There IS one problem with Gents' Island: you won't want to leave.
Thank you! You were great guests and we look forward to seeing you again this summer! Its a unique guest that is not only a professional photographer but also provides us with spectacular pictures of our property. You and your brother James are gentlemen in every respect and delightful to spend time with. It is obvious that you enjoy the wilderness and all its creatures as we do. David and Myrna
