Comfortable, secluded and amazing views of the Tuscan hills
We chose Palmata as our holiday home location because of its vicinity to Pisa Airport (40 min approx.). The house is on top of a hill, which is served by a windy but decent road up to the church, from there though there is a steep, narrow road that few vehicles could front (we had a 9 people carrier and decided it was best to park it by the church and walk the remaining 100m to the house but it can be a challenge when carrying baggage, shopping or if you haven't got good legs). The house is spacious, we were 8 people (including a child and a baby) and found that the indoor and outdoor space worked for us. There are all the facilities you need such as two showers, cooker, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and iron, however we were told not two use two high energy appliances (such as oven + dishwasher or Iron + microwave) at once because the demand would exceed the 3kW limit and make the electric fuse box trip, it happened a few times but we fixed it ourselves. It was disappointing to find that the house needed a good clean when we got there, also it would have been nice to have mosquito nets on all windows instead of some only, because there are so many biting insects of all sorts there that any measure that could be put in place easily and cheaply would have helped (a good insect repellent is highly recommended). The pool we had was big enough for our needs and has an effective pump to keep it clean, but it wasn't the one we had seen on pictures at the time of our booking, so we were disappointed primarily because we didn't like the fact it didn't have a flat surrounding paved area and it had to be accessed through a ladder. The owner's justification was that it was a pool of new construction and he hadn't had the time to finish it off to look like the other pool which was used by the adjacent property. Besides that the owner Leandro is very kind and prompt.
About the area: Lucca is only 15 minutes drive away and it's a beautiful place, Pisa and Florence are also reasonably close. Pistoia is a city about 1 hour drive away which we loved (it's not such a popular tourist destination but it should be). Same for the Carrara Caves that we visited (I recommend the indoor tour at the 'Cava di Marmo' via Miseglia Fantiscritti, Carrara; €10 per person for a 40 min tour in the caves with knowledgeable multilanguage tour guides and above all a steady 16C temperature, which is heaven when you have to bear 35C outside!). Happy holiday!
The house is in a quiet peaceful location with lovely views of Lucca and its surroundings.
The property is in a remote location so a car is a must have requirement. The house is quaint and quirky but has all that you need for a comfortable stay and is kept very clean. The pool was regularly used by us to help cool off during the lovely warm sunny days (which were plenty). The house is well located should you wish to explore the surrounding area. Pisa and the coast are about 30 minutes drive away or if you like mountains and beautiful scenery then this can be found less than an hours drive away. Leandro was a lovely friendly host and we will consider returning.
Wunderschönes Haus in toller Lage
