About Gill MEREDITH
The owners of this villa are French. They live in the neighbouring village of St Hilaire d'Ozilhan.
Gill MEREDITH purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Gill MEREDITH chose Castillon-du-Gard
This villa is simply superb. It has been very tastefully furnished with all bedrooms having en suites. The addition of spa facilities on the ground floor indicate the level of comfort that the owners want for their guests. The husband has been a professional chef and it shows as the kitchen is second to none and is the best equipped that I have seen. As renters frequently comment "it is a professionel's kitchen and it has everything and more". The village sits in a perfect location as it is close to the A9 motorway but far enough not to be affected by noise or pollution. It also has a choice of airports and the TGV train that arrives into Avignon and also Nimes.
What makes this Villa unique
We are surrounded by vineyards and there are superb quality wines at a very reasonable price. The vineyards provide a pretty backdrop to the region that also has sunflowers and lavender. It has a variety of pretty hilltop villages and a large Roman influence in the architecture of the houses and monuments. The owner offers to cook you a gastronomic dinner at the house on the day of arrival and ensure it is all prepared and then will leave to allow you to dine in private in the perfect surrounding with great food. He can select the food for you should you wish to pay him or you can provide your own. It is certainly highly recommended to allow him to demonstrate some of the local specialities.

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY
This house merits at least 100 stars! We have stayed in a lot of rental homes, and this one takes the cake.
From the moment we walked in, we were overwhelmed with the heartfelt hospitality, warmth and generosity of our hosts, Gilles and Mireille Dauteuil, and the graciousness of our house manager Gill. We were greeted with an overflowing bread/pastry board, a fruit tray, and a fridge stocked with basic supplies.
The house is situated on top of a hill with a spectacular view of Pont du Gard, which is magically lit up every night. It was an easy walk to the village to pick up our daily baguette, pastries and basic supplies.
The luxurious villa is furnished with no detail spared, from bath robes in every room to heated outdoor lamps near the dining area on the patio. The grounds are large, with comfortable seating at various levels. There is a heated pool (which we did not make full use of since it was April) and a spa in the basement including a hot tub, sauna and steam room.
The bedrooms are very well appointed, the beds comfortable, we all slept very well. The suite downstairs is quite large and private with its own sitting area and king size bed. It leads out into a lovely garden.
The kitchen is a dream: actually there are two -- one main kitchen and another very useful smaller one off to one side. We ended up cooking a lot of meals here just because it was such a pleasure to have a fully equipped chef's kitchen with no detail spared. We even used the built-in fryer to make our own frites!
The highlight of our stay was the evening that Gilles (who is a Michelin-starred chef) and Mireille prepared a meal for us. It was several courses of deliciousness after deliciousness, prepared with great care and love.
Thank you so much Gilles, Mireille and Gill for a truly remarkable stay, we would like nothing better than to come back and visit again.
A Slice of Heaven in Provence - 5 Stars Aren't Enough!
We just had the pleasure of staying at this absolutely stunning home in Castillon-du-Gard. From the moment we arrived, absolutely everything exceeded expectations. The photos don't do the villa justice, and they certainly don't communicate the great care and warmth that you feel when staying here! They've thought about absolutely everything.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Gill, the house manager, as well as Gilles and Mireille, the owners. They had prepared a breadboard with fresh fougasse, a plate overflowing with handmade cookie/tarts, a large fruit basket, and other treats. The fridge was stocked with orange juice and milk, so we were set for the morning.
We toured the Chef's kitchens (separate prep kitchen is attached to main kitchen). Chef Gilles has not spared a thing. Multiple ovens (all Miele), 2 cooktops (induction and gas), built-in deep fryer, built-in wall Nespresso, large fridge with ice and water dispenser, wine fridge, dishwasher... If you like to cook, it's a dream.
All four bedrooms are roomy and gorgeously decorated and appointed, with an ensuite for every room (there's also a powder room near the kitchen and pool). Beds and linens are all very comfortable, and we slept extremely well. The photos don't show the downstairs suite very well - it is huge, with a king sized bed, kitchenette area, and separate toilet/tub areas. It also has a private walk-out to the garden.
The terrace is huge and the stunning, manicured gardens filled with olive trees and lavender are one of the best parts. We spent much of our time here, on the couches or eating at the tables. The view of the Pont-du-Gard is better than the photos. You're literally staring right at it and it's lit up in colour every night. After dinner, we loved playing petanque on the court in the gardens, next to the lavender patch. We all enjoyed the plunge pool in the heat as well!
The spa is, as described, fully equipped with more than you could ever hope for.
Finally, I can't end without sharing our favourite 2 things. The house comes with a stocked cellar of excellent, curated wines of the region, all at cost (actually, cheaper than we could find anywhere else). This was a huge perk. Secondly, we had quite literally, the most memorable meal of our lives, cooked by Chef Gilles and served by Mireille (an add-on). This 9-course meal with wine pairings, cooked by a Michelin star chef under the stars, was a dream come true. Merci, merci, merci.
BEAUTIFUL HOME WITH A MESMERISING VIEW
Our family of four adults plus a friend spent a fabulous week here as part of our daughter’s 30th birthday celebrations. With three bedrooms on the upper floor (each with ensuite) and a separate apartment downstairs the setup was ideal for us.
Most days were spent lazing around the villa and gardens, reading by the pool, playing board games or pétanque, cooking in the (chef’s) kitchen and eating on the shady terrace with that glorious view in the background.
Evenings began with a glass of one of the lovely local wines. We found the reasonably priced bottles provided by our hosts to be very good (and the system convenient). Each bottle had a price sticker and the amount was tallied up at the end of our stay and taken from the security deposit.
The restaurants in the village were all good and the walk there and back justified dessert! The supermarket in a nearby town was very well stocked and there are weekly markets in some of the surrounding villages. Pont du Gard is of course the big attraction in the area and well worth a visit.
The elegant decor and generous provision of everything we could possibly need or want during our stay, was superior to anything we have have experienced in a family home setting, in more than 30 years of international travel.
Our pleasant agent Gill was an excellent communicator and her knowledge of the local area was very helpful. We had the pleasure of meeting our kind hosts on the first day and we must express our heartfelt thanks for making us feel so welcome and also for the magnificent apricot tarte (prepared by chef) which became our birthday cake!
We are already planning our return and would without hesitation recommend this place for a luxurious break.
Wonderful house with great owners
We passed a wonderful week with this excellent house as our home base. As others have mentioned, it was so nice to be greeted by the owners, who had stocked the house with basics in the fridge, along with bread, fruit, and a wonderful tart. The wine system of consuming what we want and tracking the cost was very helpful and the wines were great! The house is in pristine shape and was well arranged for our family of six (2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 2 teenagers). The view from the terrace onto the valley and the Pont du Gard is amazing, and we enjoyed having our breakfast outside every morning, listening to the birds and looking out onto the garden. We made good use of the boules court and the pool, too. When we had one small problem with the grill (caused by the previous renters) we were able to contact the owner who quickly came by to check on things and help fix the problem. We would definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.
